Mothers on that traditional day will be the toast of the nation. Their praises will be sung, their virtues extoled, gifts will be brought to express in a small material way how greatly beloved they are. They will be placed on a pedestal only a little lower than the heavenly angles and Diety itself. On that day in America Mother shall rule supreme in our hearts and affections. We shall humbly worship at her shrine. All this shall be proper and well deserved. The mothers of this land should be the happiest in the world and they no doubt are. Their lot, as compared with mothers in most of the nations of the earth, is to be envied. And yet, with all this expression of love and reverence and material veil being here Mothers of America, in common with all the mothers of the world, are assing through probly the unhappiest and saddest time in the worlds history. Thousands of mothers in America, and many millions of mothers in other lands, have said goodbye to husbands and sons, many of them, perhaps, for ever. They ire placing their loved ones on the fiery altar o fthe God of War. Great as are the sacrifices of other members of the human family, they pale into insignificance compared with the sacrifices which mothers of all lands engaged in the war, friend and foe alike, are required to make. For it is true, as has been said so many times and so eloquently, there is no other love so deep, so enduring, and so tender as the mother love. Because of this a mothers suffering is all the deeper, her un all the more intense. No matter what kind of a life her son may have led, he is still her boy, and her love reaches out to him in the .jungles of the tropics, or to the polar ice and snow, or to the briny deep of the great oceans, or to the heights of the eternal blue. Yes, Mothers should be happy on this Mothers Day, but with it all, it is to the mothers of the world one of the saddest periods in the world's history. Without the hope that some day out of this Armageddon, will come a brighter day for freedom and peace on the earth, the grief of the mothers of the world would be almost Pledge To Fighters CAMPS of . This quotation is from the promise given by the English speaking people of South Africa in their monthly patriotic, prayer meetings where prayers are offered in behalf of their citizens serving in the armed forces of their country. The idea of holding these patriotic prayer meetings was originated in South Africa, and recently has been taken up in other countries, and particularly in our own. On May 10, Mothers Day, in many cities and towns of the United States gatherings similar to those held in South Africa will be in session. President Roosevelt, Secretary of War Stimson, and numerous other leaders urge that we have more patriotic meetings, more marchenthusiasm and patrioting, more of the ism which will help us through the dark places and the dark hours yet to come, and when the final victory is won, will help us to appreciate to the fullest what it means to us and to other peoples of the world. The people of the Lincoln high school district, the city of Orem, and of Sharon Stake are joining many other communities in the United States in mass meetings on Mothers Day to offer joint prayers for the safety of their loved ones in the armed forces of their country and to pay some special mark of respect and tribute to their fathers and mothers. Details of the local mass meeting are carried elsewhere in this paper. There are 1C6 or more boys and 2 girls (nurses) serving font this area. We firmly believe it will e an inspiration and a great uplift to them to know that they are being thought of and praved for at home not only by their parents anti other lived er.os, but by the entire community. True appreciation sincerely expressed is a wonderful tonic to help one through the daik hours. All of this i in harmony wih the suggestions made bv the President and other leaders.
