That is exactly eighteen months longer than some of its fearful relatives thought it would last. Really, it was scheduled to endure six months no longer. But the fact is, it does live. If it didnt it wouldnt be necessary to write this article entitled, Why Scera? Otherwise the title would be Poor Scera! with the necessary flowers and crepe. But Scera doesnt call for flowers and crepe. Like any other lusty youngster on its way up it may have to elbow for room, or to put i another way, explain the reason for its existence. So that is the answer. Scera wants to grow, and asks the world to hear why it wants to grow; hence' the title, Why Scera?1 To answer that repetition must be indulged, in fact it is essential to repeat. Although Scera has been doing its best to explain itself for two years, every now and then some one arises and asks, What is this Scera thing? Well Then, for' the nth time and as a sort of birthday offering, here it is : Scera is the alpnabetical abbreviation, a la New Deal, for the official name of the organization listed cn the records as Sharons Cooperative Educational-RecreationAssociation, A rathec large name to roll on your tongue while taking one breath, even if you practice deep breathing; hence Scera. What It Is Not It may help to explain Scera by explaining first what it is al not: Scera is not a religious organization; it is not controlled by any church,' and church standing is not a requirement for membership. This cannot be too strong' v emphasized. Scera is not organized for financial profit. Its articles strictly forbid that. It does not cater to the general public. It is not commercialized in any respect. Only members and their guests can participate in its programs. It is financed entirely by the dues and assessments paid by its members and a small advertising income from the Voice of . Sharon, What It Is On the positive side, Scera, then, is a non profit Cooperative. incorporated under the laws of Utah, with its principal place ot business at Orem. It has a charter issued by the Secretary of State. Scera is a self-hel- p cooperative. Its members support it, and they, collectively, are Scera. It receives help from no other source. The territory within its jurisdiction comprises the entire town of Orem, including Windsor, Sharon, and Timpanogos wards, and all the territory in the Lincoln High School District lying outside of the town of Orem. These communities are Vineyard, Lakeview, Pleasant View, Edgemont and Grand View ; all with total population of about 5000 people. Any person over the age of six years of good moral character residing withm the territory named above may become- a member. Others residing outside this territory may become members by vote of the trustees. SCERA has as its purpose to advance the charitable, social, educational, religious, civic and general welfare of its members, and provide wholesome educational and recreational advantages and activities for its members and their families. Here 250 juveniles dressed in the costumes of the various nations, and carrying their flags, paraded, danced and sang, to the delight of more than 1500 people crowded into the grandstand and adjacent grounds. From the first national group to appear on the scene to the finale in which they all merged into a giant melting pot the scene was a riot of color and action, A crowded dance at Gt neva climaxed the day activities, Get Your Used Car NOW 1935 Ar- 7.
