Should they of a few short years ago see the County as it is now, they would probably be astonished at the wealth of development that has already taken place. We are still pioneers in blazing trails towards new but vital needs. Some of our leading modern pioneers see the following paths along which we may find development. A Future For Agriculture. There is another outstanding advantage. There is no better place in the world for the study of geology and botany than in our own mountain ranges. This feature alone would make Utah County an excellent educational center. There is no real reason wh; Utah County should not become one of the leading educational centers in the world. The supply for the entire County could be increased if more care were given to the conservation of the amount already available. The lining of ditches with some more or less water proof material would help, but would take capital. Our pioneers pinned their agricultural hopes largely to the acquisition and farming of large acreages. Modern pioneers are finding more success in the intensive farming of much smaller plots. With so much agricultural competition, the farmers best chances seem to lie in the direction of improved quality rather than increased quantity. There is always a market, no matter how far away, for superior produce. Fortunately, the soil and normal climate of this County makes it possible to produce fruits and some vegetables of a flavor much su If perior to the usual run. water supply and crop pests could be controlled and then intensive attention given to quality produce, Utah County would need have no fears for the success of her agricultural life. Local Market Needed. It has also been suggested that a local market might be provided for the produce by canneries. These too would need to excel in quality and perhaps also increase quantity. This would necessitate more capital than is usually available, but it no doubt could be obtained if the proper interest were created. Exceptionally good vinegar is made from our apples. That fact and the fact that no better cucumbers and onions are grown in the world suggests possibility of quality pickle and vinegar works here If we had large roller mills, they could receive the great surplus of wheat shipped to other sections and ought to pay a handsome profit on the investment. The amount of dairying we do would justify also a cheese factory. A beerpacking enterprise would be a source of immense income to the inaugurates and would find a virgin field. And following this same industry could just as vell come tanneries and shoe factories. Nearly all the hides produced here are shipped to points outside, ' made into shoes and boots and n returned to be sold. And there li are other industries that would li find a favorable location here and provide a large income for those concerned. ii MUTE i Industrial Possibilities. LUMBER CO Formerly Smoot Lumber Co.
