Serious injury to Mrs. Emma Poulson, beloved pioneer and resident of Orem, last Sunday evening, calls attention to the extremely hazardous traffic on the state highway through Orem, and particularly where the state highway intersects the canyon road in north Orem and where it intersects the Vineyard to Edgemont highway in south Orem. It appears that Mrs. Poulson was attempting to cross the highway from the grocery store on the west side of the street when a car coming from the north ran into her. At the intersection where the accident occured there is a traffic light. The operation of the stop and go signal on this light has been very inconsistent in the past. We do not know whether the light was merely blinking the yellow signal at the time of the accident, or whether it was on the red and green signal. Whether it was so operating is not material to our discussion, because the matter we call attention to is the inconsistent operation of the traffic signals, both here and at the canyon road. At times the lights are operating as blinkers, and at other times on a red and green light arrangement. There seems to be no regular program as to how the light is operated at any given time. For this reason many motorists seem to have acquired the habit of entirely disregarding the warning of these lights. What the solution to this problem is, we dont know, but we think it deserves serious study and that immediately. While we are on the subject, we would like to call attention to the serious danger to the numerous patrons of the community auditorium near the Lincoln High School. The traffic by this auditorium on the state Hundreds of people highway is largely unregulated. park their cars on the west side of the highway and have to cross over through heavy traffic to the auditorium. Scarcely, if ever, do we see a traffic officer when the traffic is heaviest and the programs are beginning or letting out. ;vZ t ;ash'' , 4 . , - ' y U' : ; ARCIin ECTURAL Z, ' v r -- 1- V. V $M)75 . Despite the large number to turn out, Coach Brooks is facing a real problem to build an outstanding tnm due to the fact that only one regular and three letter-me- n are back from last year's Thirty-fiv- e squad. The lone returning regular, Bob Foutln, Is a two year veteran at forward, and he was an outstanding offensive player laBt season. The lettermen who are returning with Foutln are Phil Conder and Boyd Worthen, forwards, and Ralph Peterson, guard To work with these boys and to round out a squad Coach Brooks will have Kenneth Brere-toJack Rohboek, Leon Aiken, Earl Farnworth, Sterling Bylund, Andrew Watts, Clyde Davis, Leo Vernon and several others who played on the Sophomore team last year. Another possibility Is Conrad Ryan, a tnew comer to Lincoln this year, who Is showing promise.
