Horse shoe pitching and ladies soft bail will also take place during the noon time until 2 ' ihieuttuhai QmmunikcL 1 16 17 18 19 - V M f- -9 The bu.iding now houses the Board quarters, also the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Men, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chamber of Commerce, the Towns Public library, the Public Health Nurses office, WPA and NYA offices, Judge Hugh Vern Wentz's ofuce, and also the living quarters for the Town Marshall, and there' are several rooms yet to spare. It has three stories, the basement being designed mainly for amu3ement, with one room adequate for a dancing party of 25 couples, containing a beautiful floor. The upper story has four main rooms and bath equipment Prior to the sale ot the property to Orem, President A. V. Wat-kinof Sharon stake occupied the structure under lease. Orem, as an incorporated community, began its existence in when 1919 Lawrence Snow, Emery McKellip, Neil A. Jacobsen, J. W. Gillman, J. A. Loveless, and Russell Homer formed a delegation to the County commission seeking Incorporation for the purpose of providing the community with culinary water. Pointing out to the Commission the presence o adequate water TowTn B which could be acquired, where- as people at that time were forced to use ditch water, straining it from bugs etc. the delegation were successful, and Mr. Snow was appointed president of the new town board, with all members of the delegation as board members, and Mr. H'mer as the first town clerk. The first election was hold in the fall ot 1920, and Mr, Snow was elected mayor, along with the previous board member an( he served two terms. In 1924 J W. Gillman became Orems second mayor, and served four terms, until 1936, when Mr. was elected, serving unlli 1938. In the election of 103 i B. M. Jolley, Orem's present mayor, was elected. His term runs unlli lp 1940. The wo-- k pf the Town clerk was carrial on by Mr. Homer for several years, with the unfortunate experience durir g his term of having all the town records maps vouchers, etc, stolen with his car one day in Provo, aB he had them for safe keeping in his own possession, but left his ear a few minutes and a car thief took car and all. Orems eariv records have never been heard of since, but, for several years utter that time Neils A. Jacobsen kept them, and now V. Emil Hansen has this duty. The present records are now in perfect order, reports Mtir Jolley Another objective in inrorpor-ntin- g the Town of Orem was to provide bettor roads for the community. Both these projects, water and roads, have gone hand in hand with each succeeding town board, and today Orem has become a cly of lovely homes, to a desirable place in which with hundreds of people live, coming here to build residen-e- s.
