A new calremain so for very long. Before endar la hung, new resolutions are 1939 was two days old thiB clean made,, hopes and ambitions are slate has been blackened In by that really hoisted high, wishing lor the best and yet deep Inside anticipating the worst. Most of these New" resolves are ages old and are worn ragged by the many times they are made and then broken. More than one American In four Is making a New Tear's resolution for 1939, according to an Institute survey. Here are the' leading resolutions as named by men and women combined: 1. Save more money. 2. Improve my character. 3. Better myself In business. 4. Stop smoking. 5. Be more religious; go to church more often. If thse millions of resolutions are carried out, the year 1939 will see more money tucked away for things that .really matter," less drlhktng and smoking, and a marvelous improvement In the American disposition. One thing that la clean and new with the beginning of the new year is the accident record. At the beginning of each new year MARIJUANA AMAZING DRUG delirium laughmadness ter sensuality all In the cheap marijuana cigarette that Is sweeping the country and finding its most eager addicts among high school boys and girls. There are now 200,000,000 weed smokers in the world. The continued use of marijuana brings about a violent type of unsanlty, thus, wheu a person Is under Its effect theres no telling what he might do. The following facts stand Out In social and medical reports: First: Marijuana is not a habit forming drug. Second: It prolongs sensations. Third: It is the most Inexpensive of drugs; Marluana cigarettes selling at from three to twenty five cents each. The smoking of from one to as varied efthree reefers, fects upon different persons. It may bring on violent laughter, crowding Ideas through ones brain that makes everything become reslow and dull, venge, passionate love, unclear vision and at all times all normal conceptions of time and space are lost. Marijuana cigarettes are fast becoming especially popular, among school children. The following Is part of an article taken from a newspaper concerning these cigarettes. The Chicago Dally News tells of seizure by cops of 40,000 marijuana cigarettes intended for sale to school children, a fine trade having been worked up among these striplings. Students, these cigarerves produce uncanny effects and when under their influence both yourself and others are endangered. Take heed to what this article has said so that marijuana cigarettes will not be able to take its hold in our school. 'condensed from World Digest) Dreams $ 4 self-estee- ON THE GfiEEN three deaths and twelve injuries in the state of Utah. One of these deaths came very close to all of us in this community, our beloved friend and teacher Charles H. Farnworth, Jr, who Is deeply mourned and will le greatly missed by all those who had any occasion to come in contact with him. These deaths were probably the results of someone not re- specting the rights of others, and thus the clash and the tragic results. One writer has said that the greatest heritage of the American or any other people Is the Bill of Rights. The guarantee of liberty, freedom, and Independence, with certain restrictions. Some who do not appreciate and live by these restrictions cause such things as the blackening of a clean Slate, starting the New Year out in the same old way. The calendar says It Is a new year, but events present and events past say it will me just one more old year. Staff Enthusiastic About Year Book Progress The Lincoln Tigers won a debasketball game with Spanish Fork High on Dec. 28 by a very slight margin. The tln-- 1 score was 17 to 13. They traveled to Tooele where they lost their last game, because they missed many close-u- p shots, while the Tooele boys seldom missed a shot. On Jan. 8 the league games start, and the Tigers are to be hosts to the American Fork team. The Tigers have not beaten the American Fork team for a number of year. The bays have been pointing all season for the game and they feel that they have a very good chance of breaking the jinx and winning over the big boys from American Fork. fensive i tauS iOi tutj 1909 rvttuciuitctir are shaping very nicely, according to reports from the staff.
