Entered as ecoad class matter at the Poet Office in Provo, Utah, uni? r the act of March 3. 1879 al Our Country, Tis Of Thee! July 4! The Glorious Fourth! America is still the Land of the Free". Despite accumulating billions of debt, despite unemployment and the philosophy of scarcity and want which still prevails over this broad land of plenty, we yet hold the banner of freedom aloft to the world, crying unto all nations the Gospel of Peace and Good Will. Attempting to adjust ourselves to the new conditions of a machine age which is destined to bring to us the age of plenty, America is making frantic efforts to find a solution for our problems without resorting to force, to dictatorship, and to complete government regimentation. The NRA was abandoned as a national experiment because it savored of regimentation. The social security Act with its accumulating millions of surplus likewise is based upon the age old thinking of scarcity. It will topple over, of its own weight, quite as surely as the philosophy of debt, whieh showers millions of borrowed money upon us, will bring about chaos in the future, unless our thinking is changed. America must lead the world in providing for peace, instead of destruction, as Europe is engaged in today. We seem to be unable to sever our thinking from this same old world philosophy of war and its implications. Even in Utah we appropriate a million and a half dollars for ARSENALS. Thmk of it! Tnink what that money could do for leisure imrte study and planning for life and living, rather thajhjntense study of hatreds and destruction. That is but one samp?? of our thinking in America. 150 ANYTIME! SATURDAY and SUNDAY THE ONE PLACE The Toughest FEAR1 Capone . . . Terror of all . . . Now said to be a raving . . . cringing man .... We continue to seek money as if it were wealth, amf accumulate it as if it had value in itsell. Our lives, both individually and nationally, are one feverish struggle, after gain, or profit, that we might obtain Security. Why can we not see that SECURITY comes only in the manner of life we live, in the building up of real wealth, in making our America more beautiful and grand in which to live, in establishing peace and industry for all? No man can share these blessings, let him have all the money in the world, if the natural wealth back of the money were to disappear. Regardless of money, every American is entitled to the sunlight of health and happiness in his owTn home. Of what value is money if our national integrity is gone? This dream is not impossible. One war would buy it all for us. We are not a lazy people. We will work to the last ditch when fired by a zeal or enthusiasm to which we have been converted. Why can we not convert ourselves to the philosophy of peace and plenty, and work for its attainment, rather than of hatred and destruction, building arsenals, and navies, and training armies for killing people. This a land flowing- with milk and honey, but babies are starving for milk, and the honey is being hoarded for atime of scarcity. Why not, on this Glorious Fourth, dedicate ourselves to production for use, to the idea that this land can provide for all its people' that all have a right to live, and that life, and the pursuit of happiness is really our goal inliberty America. suicides, and crime.
