Foote Windsor Avra Smith Adv. Solicitor Woodruff Jenson Lucille Farley Elmer Holdaway In speaking of Elmer Holdaway one is tempted to use superlatives. This good man was so valuable to his people it is difficult to find language to describe his place in the community life. Speakers at his funeral rightly lauded his dependability, his willingness to help others, his level headedness, his devotion to Church and State, and his unbounded love All of these qualities made him a valfor his family. uable citizen and greatly endeared him to everyone who knew him. The Voice of Sharon joins the general praising his good qualities, his services, and in sorrow at his passing and extending sympathy reaved family. His memory will live long in of those who knew and loved him. acclaim in expressing to the bethe hearts Where Do SCERA Profits GoP Frequently the question is asked by members of the organization as w'ell as others, Where do the profits from the numerous activities of Scera go? There would be no ne,d to ask the question if the members understood the nature of the organization It is strictly a organization. The Board of Trustees arrange for the programs for the year, estimate the cost, and then makes the assessment on active and associate members sufficiently high to meet the cost of the program. They try to provide a margin so that there will not be any losses. If the assessments paid by the members provide more than enough money to pay for the programs, then the excess money received is used to give better and more varied programs, also tp provide additional physical features such as ball parks, swimming pool, dancing pavilion, etc., to add to the enjoyment of the associations members. non-prof- it The Association does not have any profits. The Voice of Sharon published by it does not return "any profit, as the cost of publication has usually exceeded the revenue received from advertisements. Were it not for the fact that practically all services rendered are given free to the association the association could not operate on the assessments now levied, the assessments levied for the programs given provide a recreational program cheaper than any comparable program given anywhere else in the world, so far as we are informed. Not A Church Organizatoin Scera is not a church organization and never has been. It is operated entirely independent of Sharon Stake and has a corporate charter from the State of Utah and is accountable to the State of Utah. None of its moneys go to Sharon Stake. The Stake authorities do not have any control over it in any way or manner. It is made up of citizens residing in the Lincoln High School District and the town of Orem, regardless of church membership. The Board of Trustees hopes as time goes on to receive enough money from assessments to pay back moneys that it has borrowed ,o buy materials used this year in the construction of the swimming pool. The Board borrowed $500 for this purpose, the money being pledged by the Board of Trustees as individuals and by other public spirited citizens of the community. Could Finance New Projects There are numerous worthy recreational projects which could and w'ould be undertaken in the community if funds were available. ' If every family in the Lincoln High School district and the Town of Crem would join Scera and pay the regular assessments levied for its entertainments, wonderful things could be done by this organization. For instance, each ward could have a cement tennis court and could have ball parks prepared and kept in condition for its games. Any member of he Association who would like to know the financial standing of Scera and how its moneys are expended has a perfect right to go to the treasurer and see the books at ny reasonable time. Scera invites this kind of inspectiortand if at any time you want to know how its affairs are being conducted you should go to the officers and find out from them rather than take loose statements made by people who do not know what they are talking about. The books are audited regularly and every cents of revenue is strictly accounted for. Some of these good old Spanish customs are very revolting. H Brereton of the State Bank of Provo happily surprised the Scera Board of Directors when he announced that the Bank would cancel the interest on the $500 note, wch money was borrowed six months ago to start work on the swimming pool project. This is another evidence that the local business men of Provo are our friends and deserve the support of our people. On several occasions when conditions have made it necessary, we have found no difficulty in solicit- ing help from any of the business men in Provo.
