Show rwo THE Utah V O I C E SHARON O F SUPPLEMENT Welcome New Steam Power Plant CoimiLy Officials ' mu Tf COIMIMES POWER GO. Some months ago it came to the attention of the County Commissioners of Utah County that it was going to be necessary for the Utah Power and Light Company to construct a steam plant somewhere in the state as a subsidiary to their present power plants. The County Commissioners joined with the Provo Chamber of Commerce and requested the Utah Power & Light Company officials to construct such a plant in Utah County. It appeared to us that a better location could not be found than where it is at present under construction, and, we are happy to say, about completed and ready for :c I The Utah County Commissioners are happy to congratulate the Utah Power & Light Company on their enterprise, thrift and vision. We appreciate having a public utility in oyr county that has faith in the future growth and development of our county. We have appreciated it during the construction period from the standpoint of employment. We appreciate it also from the standpoint of new industry, both because of the increased employment and valuation to our county as well as its growth and activities. We look upon it at this time as a permanent industry and asset to the community. It brings to us the most modern equipment and the last word in scientific achievement in the way of mechanical engineering, and we congratulate the engineering staff of the Utah Power & Light Company for their ingenuity and skill. We desire also to congratulate the men in charge of emWe appreployment while the plant was under construction. ciate their generous, liberal and cooperative views in selecting their workmen. We have observed, and it has been our experience with them, that they have tried to employ men with families who were taxpayers and unable to qualify for public works generally. We consider this plant a vry worthwhile addition to the assets of our county, not only for what it means to us at present, but also for its great possibilities in the future. We feel that with the crops in such good condition this year, with the Deer Creek project being put into shape for the beginning of actual construction, with the addition of our new' steam plant to our list of industrial plants, and other unmentioned factors already being in our favor, our people can look forward with eager anticipation to what the future-holdin store for Utah County. We realize that the coming of new industries will now be encouraged and we are hopeful that Lehi might participate in an industrial program. We have natural resources that could justify an industrial plan if the proper interests can be created. Now that an unlimited amount of power is available, one of the obstacles to locating industries in the County has been removed. We have been grateful for the employment the erection of the Steam Plant has given to some of our people. We hope it is the beginning of new opportunities for financial improvement. We apprecaite the fact that the laboratories of the big electrical concerns have been constantly experimenting with new uses for electricity in making life more convenient, and comfortable for us.
