Listen to Robt. H. Lemphill manager of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Georgia: "The executive of a large New York trust company admitted he knew nothing about money; that he had never studied the reports of the controller of the currency; that he did not know the relationship between the national income and the purchasing power of the na-tland that if bankers generally studied sue)) things they would (i) lose their jobs. When Mr. Hemphill got on the subject of the banks buying gov-- I ernment bonds with mere money, this banker was astonished that anyone except the "big shot3 on V all street knew this "secret! So it is evident why Mr. Eccles the other day, in an attempt to answer the congressman from Idaho on the proposition of the government issueing the currency direct to the public for capital projects, belittled the part currency played in our money structure, because, he said, currency was merely the small change of business. But did you notice how crafty he was not to reveal what was the "big change." Iney are always wary lest the' public learn that 140 to $50 billions of our money is made out of mere nothing, and they, the super bankers, create 90 per cent of such money and destroy it at their pleasure by granting and then retiring loans!
