The Statesmanship! of Lincoln The Old Lincoln Greenback Lincolns birthday has been duy observed. Republicans everywhere have rejoiced over their affiliation v.ith the Great Emancipator. They have admired each other as disciples of the Great Lincoln. 7 et in all we have heard and read of speeches made on Lincoln's Day nothing has been said about tha? quality of statesmanship which made Lincoln an object of assassination. Lincoln, the great Emancipator, was the successful president who held the Union together. Great as he was in keeping the United States from dividing the South from the North, he was greater still as the Peace Maker, cementing the nation together after such a terrible internecine struggle. No one can claim his assassination was due to bitterness from the South. The tiial of John Wilkes Booth and his associates who were responsible for his death proved that point. Lincoln's death was due to certain policies he held to be the essence of democracy, the only means whereby a nation can remain free. He was killed because of Lis open avowal of the Governments right to issue its own money. lie was assassinated by the agents of the Money Power in United States. Here are a few excerpts taken from his messages to Congress which shows his views on the Money question. Any student of Lincolns life who fails to see that the enmity which encircled him in those hectic days after the Civil war was engendered by the Money Interests has failed to read carefully the Life of Lincoln. The struggle for world domination by the Money Power centered in America after .the Civil War, and Lincoln was the one ol ject standing in the way of these International Bankers who sought control of the worlds finances. Believe it or not, like it or not, accept Lincolns judgment in the matter or not, just as you please, we present here the facts of Lincolns belief, just as he presented them to Congress, and by his avowal of this belief, became the target for thesassins bullet. Money is the creature of lawSntbtbe creation of the original issue of money should be maintained as an exclusive monopoly of national government No duty is more imperative on the government than the duty it owes the people of furnishing them with a sound and uniform currency and of regulating the circulation of the medium of exchange so that labor will be protected from a vicious currency, and commerce will be facilitated by cheap and safe exchanges. The available supply of gold and silver being wholly inadequate to permit the issuance of coins of inti insic value or paper currency convertible into coin in the volume require to serve the needs of the people, some other basis for the issue of currency must be developed and some mea.rs other than that of convertibility into coin must be developed to prevent undue fluctuations in the value of paper currency or any other substitute for money of intrinsic value that may come into use. The monetary needs of increasing numbers of people advancing toward higher standards of living can and should be met by the government. Such needs can be served by the issue of national currency and credit through the operation of a national banking system. I he circulation of a medium of exchange ISSUED and backed by the government can be properly regulated, and ledundancy of issue avoided by withdrawing from circulation such amounts as may be necessary by taxor otherwise. Government has the ation, power to regulate the currency and credit of the nation. Government possessing the power to create and issue currency and credit as money and enjoying the right to withdraw both currency and credit from circulation by taxation and otherwise, need not and SHOULD NOT BORROW CAPITAL AT INTEREST as a means of and public enterprise. THEY financing government SHOULD CREATE, ISSUE AND CIRCULATE ALL 7 HE CURRENCY AND CREDIT NEEDED TO SATISFY THE SPENDING POWER OF GOVERNMENT AND THE BUYING POWER OF CONSUMERS. The privilege of creating and issuing money is not only the supreme prerogative of government, but it is the governments greatest creative opportunity. By the adoption of these principles, the long-fe- lt want for a uniform medium will be satisfied. THE TAXPAYERS WILL EE SAVED IMMENSE SUMS IN INTEREST, DISCOUNTS, AND EXCHANGES. The financing of all public enterprize, the maintenance of stable government and ordered progress and the conduct the treasury will Ijtecome matters of practical administration. The people can and will be furnished with a MONEY currency as safe a3 their own government.
