Our first contact is with the National Guard of United States, the minute men of the army, who are enlisted and pledged to serve their country whenever the need arises. Our boys are enlisted, and T C. Hebertsen is commander of the Provo branch of the National Guard which is Battery F and part of the 145th Regiment of Field Artillery in Utah. These men must be prepared for military service on a moment's notice. The unit is so organized and so trained that it can assemble at the Armory, draw its field equipment, and be on the march in a few hours time. It is trained to give service in the front line trenches or front line of defence, until other troops can be trained and brought Into service. Two regiments are organized in Utah, the 145th F. A. and the 22nd. F. A., both being firing batteries,, having 4mm guns, 68 men and four officers (war time strength being 190 men and five officers) three headquarter batteries, one service battery, and a medical unit.
