GRAND VIEW We are all proud and happy to note the improved appearance of our grounds around the chapeL During the month of April, the men of the ward vrere requested to donate time to clear up the grounds and prepare them for planting. A landscape expert from Porter Waltons plotted the lot, and the shrubs, roses, trees, etc., were selected and planted under his direction. A few of the faithful have directed the frequent and thorough irrigation of the place , now we view the pleasing results. Im sure we shall all enjoy !h lawn, roses and other blooming shrubs. Many are delighted to observe that our grand old tree at the east, is still the center of the beautiful plot. We have the most imposing site in the county for our chapel and people will really begin to appreciate its natural beauty now, since the grounds are so beautifully laid out. One of the prettiest homes in the locality is that of Mr. and Mr. Clinton Hills, situated in the north- ' got picked out?" Mania just looked at me. The very charming little lady, Miss Bach nan, was explaining how well all the available space had been utilized so that while the house looks small outside, the rooms are comfortably large. I was quick to agree and to remark to mama, "Its plenty large and 1 like the combination of dining and living room. Our dining room is just pure waste it gets so little use on account of our eating off the kitchen table except when we have company. Now whats to prevent our turning our dining room into a brooder for chickens, or, if you would object to that, we need an extra garage and could fix a right convenient one out of that waste room. A Bedroom Scene I didnt dare look at mama or say any more right then, and after tke silence had gone by I just listened to her and the pretty lady as I tagged along Into a bedroom that, I'll swan, was right down beautiful! Mama olied and abed at the gauze curtains and sighed over the closet space and finally said to me, "Josh, can you imagine the bliss of sleeping in a room like this? and I said, No. Theres too many pretty things to look at and besides, can you imagine my snores harmonizing with anything here? Or how appropriate my shoes and socks would smell as they sprawled there on the floor close to that dainty silk coverlet?" It was a good thing Miss Bachman laughed because mania was indecisive about doing several unpleasant things. We got through the bathroom and another bedroom without any trouble, owing to my sense of judging limits. I will say, however, that I sure would have enjoyed trying out that bathroom. Everything was so handy and nothing was missing. Sometimes at home when I get in the tub and .all wet I find out "this that I want is in the kitchen and "that that I must have is in the bed room, and so on. I feet so irritated that you can bet I cant do any singing in the tub. That bathroom at Ohnstead surely took my eye ibut I wouldnt dare say anything" to mama for fear she'd think I was getting bath conscious and insist on my going through a bathing ordeal more than once a week at home. But if I had a bath room like that one in the Home of Ideas, it would be different. I've been figuring on - how. to make some changes in ours but I dont dare spring it on mama yet. It has been reported that I am antagonistic toward this institution. I am unable to conceive of any person or persons circulating a rumor of this character for malicious or political purposes. Therefore I am inclined to believe that it originated from the' stand I have taken in the Town Board on giving water to the various public institutions. I have never antagonized the Mormon religion or any other In as religious organization. much as they are a factor in raising the moral standard of the community or a factor jn the social ard econ mic condition of our people I can gladly and willingly extend to them the right hand of fellowship and wish them success. On doctrinal points I may disagree. However that is my right under the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of Utah, and I gladly concede to others the same rights I demand for- myself. Going back to the above rumor I will say that a controversy arose in the Town Board on the question of giving water to the schools, swimming pool and churches, in which I consistentTo settle the ly disapproved. question I was forced to invoke the opinion of our attorney Judge Christensen which sustained my contention, that it was a violation of the statutes, and breach of contract with the government, of the United States who hold a mortgage on the revenue of our water system. It made me feel like a slave driver to think of all the woik mama had been doing needlessly.
