A Column of Comment Vise snd Otherwise There is cause for great rejoic. ing in the community in the recovery from serious illness of Mayor B. M. Jolley, Scout Master Karl Mecham of Sluiron, and Town Marshall Adelbert llishop. These men have all served with distinction In the community, and it Is Indeed good news that they are all well on the road to recovery. w While speaking of Mayor Jolley, this column would like to state that although It hasn't always agreed with him in every of respect In his administration town affairs, yet it feels that Important progress has been made In the development of the community in the wise steps which have been taken for physical lmJ provement of the town facilities. When one considers that during the short space of a year and a half the town administration has made extensive Improvements and extensions in the town water system, both in the source of supply and in extending its mains in old and new annexations to the town, the purchase and improvement of a town hall and a town park, the building of miles of new sidewalks in collaboration with and the State Road Commission the Works Progress Administration, In the platting of the town and the marking of streets and the numbering of homes, and In promoting numerou , other activities, and yet at the same time is able to bring a tax reduction of .3 of a mill, one wonders how so many things can be so efficiently done on the limited financial resources at the disposal of the town. We are informed that the debt Increase for the purchase of the town hall and park was not more than $7,000, the balance being paid out of current revenues, and that the annexation of territory in the Grandview area has m 're than compensated for Improvements In the water system which necessitated the issuing of additional bonds. We wanted to say this before the political season opens. This column holds no brief for the present administration. It has often been more or less critical, but It believes In giving due credit to those who are entitled to It. We just caught a glimpse' of the East Central Utah L.D S. Welfare Program grounds at the former Stratton warehouse. Well painted buildings, remodelled to meet the needs of the program, landscaped grounds, beautified by masses of colorful blooms, have made a transformation that is hard to believe. It Is a fine example of what intelligent direction of what would otherwise have been Idle labor can do when there is a will to do It. And we are informed that very little money has been expended in the program of Improvement. Take a look sometime before the frost comes. If you want to see an ex. ample of what can be done under Intelligent direction Mr. ad Mrs. Laudie certainly deserve the congratulations of the community for the fine example which has been set. ; . ..H W j gram of tap, ballet, character, and social dances.
