Casper told the commissioners that Senator Hatchs number one priority is judicial norm'iations. She said the senator feels that it is important that the senate is trying to amend the constitution by forcing a minimum of 60 votes on judicial nominations instead of the 5 1 votes now required. Casper also said the flag amendment has been reintroduced. This amendment is the only thing that Senators Hatch and Bennett disagree on, although they do not disagree on protecting the flag. Caspar said both senators love the flag and the country and feel that it should be protected. Senator Bennett feels that it can be done with a statute and Senator Hatch says it should be done with a constitutional amendment. The Senate is evenly divided on this issue but not along party lines. Each side of the issue has a philosophy of how best to protect the flag. In order to pass, the amendment will take a two thirds vote and it will probably not happen Vehicle burglaries escalate on west side Most of the items taken in the burglaries are stereo equipment, CDs and anything lying loose in the vehicle.
