Show B3 Wednesday, February 12, 2003 Vernal Express Valenti Dies E)ay Contest wi Diners Many people sent stories to the Express describing their sweethearts for the Valentine Love Story Contest. Each sweetheart deserves a pike, but unfortunately the Express could only pick three. First place goes to Jessica Tuwun who wrote: As the oldest son in a family of island chiefs, Ambrose's life was a dream. He could have married a local girl and lived forever in a Vernal Dean and Hazleton to marry in temple Shalisa Dean and Kirk Hazleton have chosen to wed Feb. 14 in the Mount Timpanogas Temple. A reception will be held in their honor Feb. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dean residence, 2065 E. Hwy. 40. The bride is the daughter of Dennis and Cherrie Dean of Vernal. She is a 2000 graduate of Uintah High School and attended Salt Lake Community College. She is currently working as a dental assistant. The groom is the son of Lyon and Janett Hazleton of Monticello. He is a 1999 graduate of Monticello High School. He served a two-yemission in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. He has attended College of the Eastern Utah and is currently State Utah Valley attending ar College. The couple plans to make their home in Salt Lake City. tropical paradise. Ambrose has not been back to his native island of Yap since he came here eight years ago. He said he misses his family and is glad to be here. He likes the friendliness of Vernal and is even beginning to like the weather. Jessica won a cooler with a built stereo system from Pepsi-Col- a and a one night stay for two at Landmark Inn. Second place belongs to Bethany Trouberman who said about her husband, He comes home from work, dog tired, only to find a fussy baby and a pregnant wife lying on the couch. What?! No dinner and the house isnt clean? No matter, he showers, cooks dinner, plays with his boy and takes care of his wife, making sure she laughs a little, but mostly just feels loved and cherished. His world may not always smell of roses, but he sure makes it sweet for everyone else! Bethany and her husband, Jim, son named have an 11 month-old Zeke and are expecting their daughter next June. Bethany was bom in Provo and lived in Vernal from 1995 to 1998. Jim owns his own tree trimming business which he moved to Vernal six months ago when he and Bethany decided to move back here to help her father, who is minister of Grace Baptist -- Marriage Licenses Ben Charles Redfeam and Andrea Elizabeth Costillo, both of Vernal, issued Feb. 7. Bethany won dinner for two at Niki's and two tickets to the Vernal Theater. Tina Metcalf took third place. She said, My special sweetheart is my husband, hes been through a lot in the past year. He was in an oil field accident, getting half of his foot cut off! And through all of the trauma and emotions hes still shown us lots of love and attention. So I think hes my special sweetheart, who deserves a special valentine. Tina, her husband Daniel and their two sons Nick, 6 and Chris, 14, are originally from Oregon. They moved to Vernal two years ago when Daniel found work in the oil field. The injury to Daniel's foot is nearly healed and he is currently undergoing physical therapy. Tina won a bouquet of flowers from Vernal Floral and a portrait from Kelly Boren Photography. There were also many honorable mentions. Sharon Hoopes wrote: "He works as a lineman, my awesome husband of mine In the cold of the winter or the summer sunshine. Many nights when you and I are asleep He is out getting the power on for the people in Brush Creek. Always giving of his time and making things good in this life What can I say, except I am so proud to be his wife!" Viola Dansie said, Thirteen years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My sweet husband was there for my operation, trips to Salt Lake for chemo therapy, hair falling out and many months of sickness. Thanks for the past 35 years. Elaine Graham wrote this poem about her Valentine: "My Valentines at the deepest roots of who I am. The most important part of my world thats my man! When I feel afraid, he reassures me. When I think I cant, he says, I know you can." I cherish our laughs, talks and bear hugs together as I sit upon his knee. I feel happy to have this cowboy bud of mine, because without him Id be nothing 1 love my Valentine!" Lori Leverton wrote a tribute to her sweetheart: "Although his love is shared with Now that Im out she has stuck by me through everything. She helps me with my children and my house. "She has stuck by me through financial problems, a very messy homeless, divorce, my being depression and everything else. Shes very special." Shannon Johnson wrote, My sweetheart is very special because a few years ago I got into a lot of trouble and had to go to jail. Teacher called to active duty Jeff Gruwell is not only a teacher Guard, assigned to a unit in Salt Lake City. He was called to active duly Jan. 24. He has been a member of the Guard for 21 years and this is the first time he has been called for potential duty in a war zone. His unit was activated a year ago to help w ith the Olympics.
