Show JednesdaJlove .Vernal Express. Obituaries Patricia Rae Beck Patricia Rae Beck, 71, of McKinnon, Wyo. died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at her home. Patricia was born Feb. 18, 1933 in Vernal, the daughter daugh-ter of Frederick Moroni and Zelda Violet Foy Reynolds. She attended schools in Vernal and graduated from Uintah High School with the class of 1951. She also attended Brigham Young University. On June 24, 1953 she married Alton Duane Beck in the Manti Temple. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. In 1996 Patricia served an LDS mission in the genealogy department in Salt Lake City. She was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club in McKinnon, Wyo. She wrote a McKinnon news column in the Green River Star when her family was young. Her interests included people, peo-ple, activities with her children and grandchildren, visiting, reading and keeping up on the news. She had a good sense of humor and was an avid sports fan. Survivors include three sons, Stephen Beck and wife, Carol, of Houston, Texas, Douglas Beck and wife, Venetia of McKinnon, Wyo., and Zebulon Beck and wife, Ceri, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; five daughters, Sally Antonio and husband, Gary, of Green River, Wyo., Carol Slaugh and husband, Clyde, of McKinnon, Wyo., Julie Shillcox and husband, Dave, of Green River, Wyo., Penny Muir and Jean Holfeltz Jean Holfeltz, age 63, of Salt Lake City Vernal, Utah, died Nov. 12, 2004 at her home. Jean was born Nov. 26, 1940 to Joseph Arvid and Oral Hall Merkley in Vernal, Utah. Jean loved to spend time in the mountains fishing and camping. camp-ing. She enjoyed watching the many movies of John Wayne and scrapbooking. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and her family. Jean is survived by her mother, Oral Merkley, children, chil-dren, Terri (Aldo) Holfeltz, Curt (Shondell) Holfeltz, and Becky (Tim) Baumann, brother broth-er Ray (RaVae) Merkley, sisters, sis-ters, Connie (Ned) Cook, Aleen (Terry) Barker, and Lynne Merkley, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Miles Baumann. Funeral services will be held Clyde Jenkins Clyde R Jenkins, age 62, of Ballard, died November 10, 2004 at the Uintah Basin Medical Center of a heart attack. He was born July 9, 1942 in Ballard to William Isaac and Edna May Thompson Jenkins. He married Lorna Hullinger Dec. 28, 1961 in Vernal. Clyde worked construction construc-tion for many years for Reed Bethers Construction building roads, dams, lakes, etc, and he has worked on oil rigs for many years. He has done everything from rough neck to driller, and enjoyed his work on the oil rigs. He loved farming and the outdoors, and loved to work and was accustomed to working work-ing hard. He liked raising horses hors-es and had some good horses. Clyde is survived by his wife, Lorna, of Ballard; 2 children, Jerry Jenkins, Altamont; and Marie Jenkins, Roosevelt; and 8 grandchildren. Clyde was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Lee Jenkins, brothers, Raymond and Donald Jenkins and a grandson, Jaycee Jenkins. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at 1 1 a.m. at the Ballard LDS Church. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park. Jl L 7 " i I J , I I ' Loyd Vickery Loyd Hensley Vickery, age 86, of Vernal, passed away Nov. 15, 2004. He was born on Aug. 31, 1918 to Enoch Huston and Minnie Lou Billings Vickery in Anderson, Ark. He married Mildred Lee McChristian on Oct. 12, 1940 in Crowder, Okla. He served in the army in WWII from 1942-1945. He earned the rank as PVT 1st Class. He was on the front lines of the war numerous times in New Guinea. Loyd loved being with his family. He enjoyed singing old time songs for his children and grandchildren, along with singing at his church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He helped construct the diversion diver-sion tunnel for the Flaming Gorge Dam. He helped build the spillway for Steinaker Reservoir and concrete forms for Ashley Canal. He worked on the construction of the old post office, along with the Lutheran Church, and numerous other buildings in Vernal. He worked in logging and enjoyed looking for rocks. Loyd also gathered diamonds at Arkansas diamond mines. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lee McChristian Vickery of Vernal; his children, Walter Lee (Sandra) Vickery of Greeley, Colo., Velma Lou (Clyde) Thompson, of Vernal, Roy Mott A. LeRoy "Roy" Mott, age 81. of Myton. died Nov. 7, 2004 at home with his family by his side after a long and courageous coura-geous battle with cancer. He was born March 31, 1923, in Myton, to Marion Othello and Iretta Christenson Mott. He married Alyce Sands, April 23, 1919, in Salt Lake City. Roy enjoyed everything outdoorshunting, out-doorshunting, fishing, camping, camp-ing, etc. He is survived by his wife, Alyce, Myton; sons, Floyd (Linda) Mott. Superior, Wis.; Gary (Ellen) Mott, Casper, Wyo.; Marlin Mott, Vernal; four grandchildren, Steve (Lara) Mott, Aurora, Colo.; Shawna Mott (Rob) Kratsch, Littleton, Colo.; Butch (Christy) Mott, Alicia Mott, both of Vernal: six great-grandchildren; sisters, Elva Smith, Thelda Malone, Margie Mott and Viola (Sonny) Van. I ,J& 4A art" ' i L Ik Virginia Foley W f II 11 If .f T I ii Virginia Ruth Hancock Foley Virginia Ruth Hancock Foley, age 80 of Vernal, passed away in her home on Nov. 11, 2004. She was born Sept. 30, 1924 to Daniel W. and Alice Addie Hancock in Roosevelt. She married mar-ried her sweetheart, Matthew Robert Foley, July 19, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. She retired from the U. S. Post Office after 30 years of service. ser-vice. She loved the Savior and served in many positions in the LDS Church. She has served in the Relief Society in various positions: president, teacher, visiting teacher, and stake board member. She also served many years in the Primary as president, teacher, and with her sons in the cub and blazer scouts. She enjoyed doing her own family history research, working in the Vernal Family History Center, and doing extraction work. She served as an ordinance worker in the Vernal LDS Temple. She and her husband fulfilled an LDS Service Employment Mission. She loved to grow a veg T T Loyd Vickery Brenda Kay (J.W.) Nold of Vernal, and Roy Gene (Donna) Vickery of Lewisville, Texas., along with his sisters, Mary Ann Osborne, of Edmond, Okla. Dortha Hill of Lilbourne, MO, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, two brothers, and one sister. sis-ter. Funeral services will be conducted for Loyd at the First Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family may call from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, and from 11:30-12:30 on Friday also at the Mortuary. Burial will be located at Vernal Memorial Park under the direction direc-tion of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. Roy Mott Wentworth and Albert; sisters, Dortha Ivie, Gladys Stoker, and Melba Mott. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Myton LDS Church. Friends and family called at the church that morning from 9:30-10:45. She could crochet, quilt, embroider, and sew. Virginia is survived by her beloved companion of 58 years, Matthew, and her children: chil-dren: Robert L. (Laura) Foley, Keith M. (AUean) Foley, Diane L. (Dennis) Spackman and Mark D. (Judy) Foley, all of Vernal. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Wilcken), a son Kenneth Ray Foley and a great-granddaughter great-granddaughter Zoe Powell. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 15, 10 a.m. in the Ashley Stake Center, 850 West 100 North. J ,,;dfl Maxine Mathis Swain Maxine Mathis Swain, age 86, passed away in the Uintah Care Center surrounded by her family on Nov. 12, 2004. Maxine was born in Hayden, Colo., on Jan. 5, 1918 to Thomas E. and Pearl Ann Barnes Mathis. She married Earl B. Swain on March 21, 1934 in Vernal. They later had four daughters. She cooked at the hospital for ten years, and worked at Antlers Motel. Maxine enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to deer camp and cooking. She took pleasure in embroidery, gathering gath-ering rocks and taking care of her rose garden and gladi-olas. gladi-olas. When she was thirty-eight years old she was awarded and honored as the youngest grandmother. Maxine was a very kind and compassionate person. She was always taking care of others and she would help anyone. She took care of her mother, father and mother-in-law for many years before they died. She is survived by her children, chil-dren, Barbara Cook of Vernal, Jackie (Charles) Preece of Vernal, Sharon Greenhow of Layton, and Linda (James) William Stanley Risner William Stanley Risner passed away on Nov. 3, 2004, at the Pine View Transitional Rehab Center in South Ogden, Utah, at the age of 80. Pa (William Stanley) was born in Bennington, Okla., on Feb. 8, 1924, to George and Clesbulina Hart Risner. He attended school in Bowlegs, Okla., and was proud of his heritage as a Native American. He was in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He met Reve' Frisby Hilton in Heber City, while he was working on a cross-country pipeline. They were married in Bowlegs, Okla., on Dec. 13, 1948 and have made their home in Vernal for the last 50 years. For the past 29 years, they have spent their winter months in Beaver Dam, Ariz., and their summers on their farm. He was a heavy-equipment operator and owner of Willie's Dirt Service, which is now owned and operated by his son, Jack. The most important things to him were his family, fam-ily, his wife, Reve', his children, Renita, Janis, Peggy, Jack, and Geni, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his farm, his mules, his donkey "Harley" and his horses. He always planted a big garden to share with his family. He was preceeded in death by a son, William George Current Topics hears about America in Bloom Current Topics Club have hosted Ranee Searle and Marty Hansen and heard the city being be-ing praised as having a problem every town wants-too many volunteers. Searle said that through the efforts of a very dedicated committee com-mittee and hundreds of volunteers, volun-teers, there were more than 1100 planters and hanging baskets bas-kets with more than 12,500 flats of annuals planted. America in Bloom judges who came to Vernal were greatly great-ly impressed with the community commu-nity and its volunteers. Vernal received a prestigious first place award in the nation for its community involvement. William Stanley Risner Risner, his parents, one brother, broth-er, Donald Risner, a sister, Lucy Mae La Bouve, and a son-in-law, T.D. (Boone) Latham. He is survived by his wife, Reve', his children, Renita (Chuck) Revill, Lehi; Janis Latham, South Weber; Peggy (Dick) Bluff, Farmington; Jack Risner, Baggs, Wyo.; Geni (Bart) Hyde, Layton; 17 grandchildren, grand-children, 21 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Maxi George Risner, Mesa, Ariz., Amelita Jenkins, Clovis, N.M., and Gloria Moore, Saratoga, Calif. A viewing was held on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Mortuary in Heber City, Utah. The funeral was held in Vernal, on Monday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at the Ashley Creek Chapel, with a viewing from 11 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. preceding the funeral. Burial was in the Vernal City Cemetery with military honors. being judged against cities of all sizes. In floral design, Vernal received re-ceived a rare five bloom rating. According to Searle, "Vernal's flowers were big, gorgeous and amazing this year."
