A reception will immediately follow the wedding. DeDee is the daughter of Leonard Battels, Vernal and Femina Colbert of Missouri. Tye is the son of Clay Johnson, Jensen and Dusty Slaugh of Vernal. The bride-elect is a 1988 graduate from Great Bend, Kan. and a 1991 Head Start comes to area A grant awarded to Rural Utah Child Development will provide a Head Start program to Vernal and surrounding communities. The Head Start program was funded fund-ed 26 years ago. Vernal is one of its most recent expansions. The program pro-gram was developed for low income children. First priority is given to low income and disabled children with special needs. Ten percent of the enrollment can be other income children with special needs, to qualify, qual-ify, a child must be four years old by Sept, 1, 1991. Food storage, prenatal nutrition classes offered On Wednesday, July 31, the USU Extension Service will be hosting Dr. Deloy Hendricks, USU extension exten-sion food science specialist, as he presents two workshops. Prenatal nutrition has been slated from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with a food storage presentation from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both classes will be in the USU Extension Conference Room on the third floor of the State and County building, 152 East 100 North in Vernal. During the prenatal nutrition workshop, Dr. Hendricks will discuss dis-cuss how the nutritional status of the mother before and during pregnancy preg-nancy can determine the health of the baby. Research linking the mother's nutritional intake during pregnancy, to birth defects both mental and physical will be discussed. dis-cussed. The effect of excess and deficient de-ficient intakes of nutrients will be noted. Guidelines to minimize the chances of having a handicapped infant in-fant will be given. The U.B.I.C. began' shortly after the end of World War I and continued each year until the beginning of World War n. During the war years, the celebration was discontinued. Up until 1950, the News from Tridell by Lorna McKee 247-2350 Two families vacation in Alaska Two families ffom the Tridell area are going to vacation in Alaska. Randy and Barbara Goodrich and their three children left on Sunday for Fairbanks. They are pulling an airplane behind their pickup, taking it to its owner. Goodrich has recently repaired the plane. The other family heading north is Winford and Veda Gray who left ten days ago for vacation in Anchorage. They plan to do some salmon fishing while they are there. The two families will meet at a designated location and spend one; night together. Robert Ahlborn and children of Houston, Texas visited last weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ahlborn. Also visiting with there were Mr. and Mrs. Kent Merrell, Salt Lake City. Robert is a geologist and is on his way to Russia to help in the oil industry. A personal shower honoring the bride to be, Kristen McKee was held on Saturday evening at Estella McKee's home. She received many lovely gifts. Kristin will be married on July 25 to Cache Miller in the Salt Lake Temple with a reception at her parents home on July 26. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ellison and family of Payson and Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Dudley, Joseph, Utah have been recent visitors at the Margaret Elison home. Thomas is a son and Hyrum is a brother to Mrs. Elison. Thomas and family also visited with his sister, Mrs: Aaron Simmons. DeLoy and Carol Dennis visited last weekend at the Ron McKee home. The Dennis are from Roscburg, Ore. Twelve young ladies and their advisors attended a four day girl's camp at Uintah Canyon this past week. . .'v Miller. The couple graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and are currendy employed in the Provo area. Following the marriage, they plan to live in Pennsylvania where the groom will further his studies at the University of Pennsylvania. U.B.I.C. was celebrated in Fort Duchesne but later moved to Roosevelt City, where it has remained re-mained ever since. Both Uintah and Duchesne Counties participate in scheduled activities. The name changed this year to "Uintah Basin In Celebration." In prior years, UBIC stood for "Uintah Basin Industrial Convention." Activities scheduled this year include a talent show, baby and tiny tot show, Mr. U.B.I.C. contest, a history seminar, the Mis,s U.B.I.C. pageant, an arts, crafts, quilt and photography show, youth bowling and open skating, free swimming, a parade down Main Street in Roosevelt, children's crafts, a fitness fit-ness walk, greased pig chase, pet show, tennis tournament and local entertainment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The grand finale will include a fireworks display and a teen dance with "Jake in Space" playing. The activities will take place in Union High School, Roosevelt Jr. High School, Constitution Park and at the USU Center.
