UINTAH UTE Ute rammers snare football game. Many other The Uintah Ute cross country team competed in two meets since Saturday and the local crew returned home to Vernal with a first and second place. Utes clash in close homecoming contests took on the Lehi Pioneers The Utes will host Timpview, Friday at 7:30 p m. Uintah had an outstanding team with such players as Gary Huber, Darrell Hacking and others and the Pioneer team had a bunch of talented players. The lead changed hands several times, but ended up in a tie. Each team gets the ball at the ten four downs. Both teams scored touchdowns to keep the game in a tie situation. The teams went into a double overtime, but Uintah failed to score and Lehi gained a touchdown for a triumph over the Uintah Ute ball team. Uintah has its homecoming game every year, but the Utes have competed in other teams homecoming yard line and gets Homecoming Games The Uintah Utes" have had homecoming games for years and years, but my first homecoming football contest was in 1975 when the Utes contests One year the Utes took part in four homecoming games. The Utes were the homecoming opponent for the Buffaloes in Tooele in 1978 and the Uintah bus rider turned on the Tooele parade route and became a part of the show. The Utes feasted on Buffaloes in the homecoming game as they knocked off Tooele for the only Uintah victory of the year. Tooele got even with Uintah in 1979 as they beat the Utes in Uintahs homecoming game. The Utes got a touchdown in overtime and so did Buffaloes won the Tooele, but-thgame when Brett Applegate, who played basketball for Brigham" Young University, connected on the extra point kick to beat the Utes by one point. Uintahs loss to Tooele was quite costly in 1979 as the Utes ended up in a three way tie with Tooele and MurThe Utes ray for third place at defeated Murray, but lost to Tooele. Murray lost to Uintah and beat Tooele. The Utes lost a coin flip and ended up staying home during the state tournament. A win over Tooele by the Utes would have given them third place in the region and a visit to the state playoffs. The Utes also beat Jordan that year in a region game and finished with a record The Uintah Utes had three tough luck losses in homecoming games Cyprus and against Timpview, Mountain View and then finally broke into the winners circle with a victory over a talented Orem team in 1982 for their first homecoming triumph since 1974 Uintah played great ball against Timpview, but the Thunderbirds put the. game out of reach for the Ute team with a powerful show ing in the fourth quarter. Uintah garnered fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. Chad Walton, Breck Sheffield, Dave Merrill, Robert Spikes and Brett McKeachnie were the top Uintah runners. Uintahs Joy Hunsaker snared first place in the girls division and Chris Jaussi, a sophomore, captured second place in the junior varsity divL-- . sion. Provo garnered first place, Tues- - day at Payson with 31 points and Uintah collected second at 46. Payson finished third at 126 and Lehi captured fourth at 145. The Bulldogs pocketed first, seand third. The top Ute performer was Doug Simper at 16 58 and Sheffield finished sixth at 17:12. Spikes garnered seventh place and Merrill picked up eighth. McKeachnie grabbed 17th place. Ute runner Hunsaker captured second place in the girls division and a Provo competitor finished in first place. The Uintah Ute cross country team will take on the Bulldogs and other teams in Provo, October 15 and will compete in the region meet at October 23. The state meet will be held at Sugarhouse Park, October 30.
