I love shopping, especially when its not your own money youre spending, I love kids and I love Christmas... in all honesty and sincerity it came from my heart and it makes the holidays better for your self and the people you serve... I J plan on doing it again. "DECA activities provide MemShaun bers with opportunities, Campbell, a sophomore at UHS and vice president of DECA, said, to serve in leadership roles, work in teams and receive local, state and national recognition. Campbell also said a few goals of DECA, which was established in 1946, are to develop in stuand stanethical to dents, develop high dards in personal and business relationships, to develop greater proficiency in communication, to develop a healthy competitive spirit, to develop social and business etiquette and to have fun. DECA aims to prepare students for success in the real world and the students are beginning to feel that success already through competition and other activities, as theres more to the club than just business and marketing. Involvement with the club has even led members to places they never expected. I recently got to attend Nationals in Orlando, Fla., Tyson Vencill said. There was when I noticed how big of a part DECA played in my life. I think that if you are involved in DECA and are successful, it gives you an automatic head start...the trip to Orlando...proved that DECA really can take you places like Disney World! Other students have been just as surprised about the road being involved with DECA has taken them on. Some find future careers, others find chances to get involved on a higher level and hope to give back to the community one day. To tell you the truth, senior Danielle Merket said, "I joined DECA as a freshman for trips, fun and boys. But as I became more and more invovled, I realized that I love marketing and now plan to do this in my future career. There are so many different competitions in DECA that there is something for everyone. My freshman and sophomore years I competed in role plays, Merket explained. Other competitions I have done include a fashion merchandising promotion plan for k business Christensens, a Vernal simulation for Junior High and facilitating the annual Uintah Basin Business Symposium. The memories, vaulted stories, friendships and marketing skills I have gained have and will continue to influence my life for years to come. Although 1 love Quiz Bowl, DECA offers something I love even more: a political side, Beech commented. In DECA you can actually run in elections to represent people. "My favorite part of DECA by far is the social aspect; the ability to network with other people my own age, Beech said. My most memorable experiences took place when I was with the Quiz Bowl team and our Quiz Bowl coach, Thad Bainbridge. 1 would like to recognize our advisers Joleen Cotrell, Thad Bainbridge and Anita Enloe. Without these individuals none of my accomplishments would have been possible. They sacrifice so much for us, and they need to know how much we truly do appreciate it. If any one of us from DECA get anywhere in life, much of the credit is owed to these three individuals. DECA has given me a major advantage for my future success, I have hands-o- n Perry added. of knowledge many marketing procedures. Not only have I been able to give back to my community through involvement with DECA projects now, but in the future I will bring my skills back to Vernal to benefit the community furJier. What an amazing opportunity for students to participate in. Even though DECA is geared toward marketing students, the skills learned through the club can apply to just about any career field The challenge DECA gives me is a good way to push myself to do my best at all I do, sophomore Kindy Kay said. I know how to present myself in job interviews and I know what I can do in the future with all the skills that 1 have acquired. Being involved in DECA has been a great learning experience and 1 encourage everyone to join.
