Show All Wednesday, May 21, 2003 Vernal Honors awarded at school board meeting thanks of Superintendent Wayne Gurney, Human Resources Director Larry Klein, and members of the board. Extending the honors to students, 17 members of Future Business Leaders of America were recognized for qualifying to participate in the National Future Business Leaders of America Competition. The board voted to supply $ 00 per student toward the $750 each student must pay for the trip. FBLA has had a number of g projects throughout the year to help cover the costs. In other business, the board elected Rodney Anderson to fill the position of vice president, a position previously held by former board member Dennis Stevens. The board voted to extend a waiver for a building use fee to Stefni Jo and Aaron Young. The Youngs will be using Vernal Middle School for a By Virginia Harrington Express Writer Lance T. Hatch received the Uintah School District Teacher of the Year award for the 20022003 schixil year during the May 15 meeting of the Board of Education. Each employee received a certificate and a book as well as the fund-raisin- ht olfi-cial- ly community play that will involve a number of school children. The waiver will allow the Youngs to pay $1,000 up front and $1,(XX) after the play is completed. That is $870 less than the normal use fee for the building. However, if the proceeds from the play exceed the expected amount, that excess will be paid to the district to make up the $870 amount waived. A strict accounting of monies spent will be turned in to J. Randall Upton, business administrator for the district. Rob Steamier, principal of Todd Elementary, requested approval to spend $16,580.74 to upgrade the schools technology and media center with new computers, books and shelving. Title VII funds, which supply money for Native American education, will cover $ ,000 of the cost. Rasmussen will begin June 9 UBTA-UBEwith Communications in the Vernal office in marketing development and as a public relations representative. "Working for the Chamber just was an extension of my interests of helping my community in any way, shape or form, Rasmussen said following the announcement of his accepting the new position. The board gave final approval for the new building and security policy that will begin next school year. This new policy will include card keys for all school doors, will require some doors to be locked (from the outside, not the inside) during school hours and will for all identification require in and school visitors employees buildings.
