Apnl 23. 2003 Local students place at history fair exhibit category, Whitney Walton, Rachel McPhie, Emily Wilkins and Krista Hautamaki of UHS placed first as a group, Marissa Morton of UHS took first place, the team of Angee Combs and Megan Wright from UHS placed second, Braden from Atwood Discovery third place, the took Elementary team of BJ. Searle, Robert Thompson and Mitchell McClellan from UHS placed third and the group of Brian J. Heritage, Shedrick B. Williams II and Daniel Jorgenson also placed third. In the history paper category, Robert Matthews from Discovery Elementary placed first, Taylor Aycock of UHS took first place and Jaden Clayson from Discovery Elementary placed second. In the performance category, the team of Kyrstiana Labrum and Chantry Batty from Vernal Middle School first, (VMS) placed Adrienne Francisco of VMS took a first place, the team of Kristie Francisco and Chelyse Hodgkin from Discovery Elementary placed first, Kemish Quinto of UHS placed first and Cecilly Francisco took second place. The Southwestern Utah Regional History Fair was presented by the Utah History Fair and the Duchesne School District. The Utah History Fair is a program of the Mountain West Center for Regional Studies at Utah State University. It is funded by the Utah Division of State History, the Utah Humanities Council and Brigham Young University. Uintah Basin Regional History Fair was held recently at the Roosevelt Middle School. and Students from Duchesne Uintah counties in grades 4-presented history research projects, competing for the opportunity to advance to the state contest. Winners, including several students from Uintah District School schools, were announced at an awards ceremony at the close of the The day. This year, students were encouraged to address the theme Rights and Responsibilities in History. They looked at issues such as the right to bear arms, responsibilities of ATV users, grazing rights and water rights. Students competed according to their age group in four historical different categories: papers, exhibits, performances and documentary media. Participants will meet at the Colton Pavillion at 9:30 a.m., and the walkers will enjoy rest stops along the five mile Vernal route. The route is also wheel chair accessible. Last Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. MS symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or as severe as paralysis or loss of vision. Although most people with MS are diagnosed as early adults, its unpredictable physical and emotional effects can be life long. Advances in research and treatment are giving hope to those who are affected. Participants may register by visiting www.fightmsutah.org, call the Utah State Chapter at mail their registration forms to 2995 S. Walkers are encouraged to raise a suggested $40 in contributions. In addition to recruiting walkers for the event, the Chapter is also recruiting volunteers to help out at each MS Walk site. Volunteers are responsible for setting up walk sites, registering walkers during and prior to the event, monitoring the route, managing snack stations, and cheering walkers along the route. Through the event, the chapter also hopes to educate Utahns about MS and promote the outstanding services and support the Society provides its members, which take the form of information and referrals, support groups, education, workshops, equipment loans, exercise programs and advocacy.
