L Support of troops Dear Editor, Last week, I read an interesting article in the Salt Lake Tribune about Vernals support of its troops. I had to ask myself So!! Whats new?? Vernal has always supported its military sons, I know from personal experience. I enlisted in the Marines in an all Utah Platoon in 1967. I left Vernal on July 24, to participate in the Pioneer Days Parade before leaving for the San Diego Recruit Depot. I couldnt understand why all the old veterans in their American Ixgion Mats were crying when we marched by. I soon learned when I arrived in Vietnam. Having served my country in a very unpopular war and being treated like a leper in southern California on my return, I didnt know what to expect when I returned home to Vernal.. Guess what? I was treated like a hero! Vernal has always been a patriotic, loving community to its veterans, even us Vietnam Vets. Both times that I was wounded in Vietnam, your paper published my injuries and condition.. I was flooded with care packages and cards. So as a Vernal vet Im not surprised that Vernal is United behind its military sons. There is truly no place like home, especially in the good ole Uintah Basin. DAVID HATCH few Utah veterans, some three years ago, decided to construct a fitting memorial in Memory Grove Park, located near our State Capitol in Salt Lake City. The main section of this memorial has the names of those killed in action engraved in granite, a Wall of Honor. One section will have the names of those contributing $100 or more and another section of those contributing $500 or more. This is tax deductible. The names of those killed in action in Korea between 1950 and 1953 from Uintah County are Paul N. Oaks, William S. Powell and Wallace Twitchell. Those from Duchesne County are Stanley C. Jenson, Emanual Lucero, Wayne N. Shields, Max B. Stevenson and Homer G. Week. Should you like to contribute any amount to have your name on the wall, limited to 28 letters and spaces, please make your check payable to Utah Korean War Memorial Association and mail it to P.O. Box 521803, Please include your Salt Lake City, UT, 84152-180phone number. Your consideration must be submitted by May 1,2003. The dedication of the memorial is to take place July 27, that is also the day in 1953 an armistice was agreed to at Panmunjom, Korea. for information or questions please call or Charles Gray, Commander Post 4519 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 790-4- 1 19. (ll ARLES GRAY Vernal While living in Europe, I had the opportunity to meet an elderly gentleman who had withdrawn almost completely from his society. This lonely old man had been a general in the Norwegian Army during World War II. He was part of a brave fighting force that struggled against tremendous odds to keep the Nazis out of their home. They failed, but it wasnt from a lack of trying. The general and his troops were heroes to their countrymen. They were bestowed with honors, treated with respect and covered with glory. All of it was well deserved. DOROTHY C. Eighty percent of the product goes to big business nurseries, large gardening and distributors, greenhouses. Municipalities, hospitals, libraries and businesses make up another major portion of sales. The company is in all 50 states and several other countries. Searle enthusiastically encourages garden product entrepreneurs to come to him for basic developmental advice and direction, which he wants to be able to share. Locally the annual flower basket decorations of the business areas of the town will begin about mid May. The Cobblestone Park is another targeted area for beautification. His first novice experiments with sand and manure are being replaced by a product this summer with the introduction of Bloom Master Platinum potting mix using bio stimulants.
