This year's tribute will be given to Lillian Henderson of Vernal who will be feted at a special program at Vernal Ver-nal Middle School July 4 at 9 a.m. Mrs. Henderson's portrait will be presented, which will be hung in "Woman Citizen's Hall" in the State-County State-County Building by the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions started the tradition tradi-tion three years ago when they honored Marguerite Colton. Last year, Stella Richards was named Outstanding Woman Citizen. Alta Winward, the Lady Lion who originated the project said, "We plan to name a lady citizen each year; there are many qualified women in our town." Chairman of this year's event, Lucille Caldwell, added. "We are very enthusiastic about having Lillian as our Woman Citizen. We feel we are also honoring her for her many years of membership to the Lady Lions." Still another tribute was given by Shanna Taylor, Lady Lions president. presi-dent. "Lillian and I have been friends for years. I can remember when I was in high school and she was an active ac-tive leader in PTA. All the kids called her, Lil. My husband, Gary, who has worked with her for years in the Chamber of Commerce, says she is a great leader, but is also willing to follow and assist so we get the job done!" A list of Mrs. Henderson's credits for public service would fill volumes. She was recognized in 1961 as Uintah County's Outstanding Woman and was named 1st runner-up in Dan Valentine's, Valentine of the Year." She was featured in the Tribune for her work with Vernal's young people. The Business and Professional Women named her Woman of the Year in 1977; she was given a "Total Citizen" award at the Utah State Chamber of Commerce; was the first woman president of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce; is the president presi-dent of the chamber's organization, Dinah-Mites; was given an Outstanding Outstan-ding Public Service Award along with her husband, Charles; and was given the "Everyday People" award by KSL in recognition of her "extraordinary" "extra-ordinary" accomplishments in community com-munity service. My attitude about public service is; if the project needs doing, and I feel I am capable of doing it, I'll always give it a try." She does not take on state projects, preferring to volunteer in her own community. "I feel that one of the things that makes this community different from so many others are the tremendous projects that are undertaken under-taken and achieved by volunteer time and money." Dode Rolfe, president of the Current Cur-rent Topics Club, and her long-time friend, said, "Lillian contributes a positive balance to our club. She is a charter member of Current Topics. She joined the club when she was 17. The hundreds of projects our club has completed in the community all reflect Lil's influence and up-beat attitude." at-titude." At a time when most people are looking forward to retiring from public service, this "professional volunteer" shows no signs of slowing down. She still heads two of the town's most important committees; The Dinosaur Garden Committee and the Chamber of Commerce good will organization, the Dinah-Mites. DUP Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp Tokawana enjoyed a summer outing June 4.
