Show Tridell Man M n 1 Killed In Oil OilField OilField r i j A i Field held Accident Funeral Services Were Held At Tridell Tridell U Wednesday Funeral services for Gene Elvis Simmons 20 who died Saturday morning orning at 2 am from injuries Incurred in an accident at at the Rangely oil field last Thursday were held afternoon at the t se Tridell ward chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter Saints with Bishop H LeRoy Morrill Merrill con con- conducting ducting con I The accident at ap approximately proximately 1 am as Mr Sim Sim- Simmons I ap-I mons With ith several other work work- workers ers was stacking drill pipe on a I rig located adjacent to the new Blue Mountain Rangely Road The crew was engaged in in lifting the pipe from the rig floor and stacking it vertically As M Mr Simmons bent over to lift a length of pipe the tong holding the vertical pipe slipped and a length of pipe dropped Other crew members are not sure as sa sato asto to whether the pipe fell on him directly or hit the floor and struck him when it rebounded The pipe hit him on the right side of the head neck and chest He was taken to for treatment and then rushed to the Uintah County Hospital at VernaL Mr Simmons was born at Roosevelt July 19 10 1927 the son Ion of George E and Elsie Simmons He attended Tridell Elementary School and Altena high school He joined the Mer Merchant chant Marine Mi in April 1045 1945 and IJ J served in the South Pacific Pacific as asan an engineer apprentice Released Released ed from the Merchant Marine in fhe 1946 1948 be worked for a time at atthe atthe the Bonanza B nanza gilsonite mines He and Twilla Rae Bigelow La- La Lapoint Lapoint Lapoint point were married August 25 1947 1847 and Mr Simmons began working in the Rangely oil Y field the l Mf W veil toy his big widow widow his h patents panta Pai five brothers Arvin E Simmons Orem Farrell Simmons Donald B Simmons Merlyn and Leon Simmons all of Tridell five sisters Mrs Charles Swarts Swans and Mrs Wayne Morrill Merrill Orem Mrs Russell West Middleton Ohio Mrs Ray C Holt Artesia Artesla Colo Verena Simmons Tridell and his paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs George E Simmons Heber Burial was in the Lapoint Cemetery |
