Show DEATH OP OF A J COLTHARP in the evening of life he dropped quietly to sleep As peacefully as one falls asleep rif after ter along a long day full of work did andrew J coltharp enter into that long sleep which we call death not a distortion of a muscle indicated that any pain was present when the soul started on that long journey natural in repose and comfort did the body appear when his daughter in law mrs W P coltharp found it last sun day morning when she went up stairs to call all the old gentleman for breakfast death for him held no horrors the grim monster that looms up relentless and inexorable on the horizon of the lives of so many of us was no spectre to frighten him ile iio said repeatedly during the past week or so BO that ke he was not only ready to go but that he desired to make the trip and he met the foe half way how easy that battle was won when a streak of red and a tinge of gray appeared in the east that holy sabbath morning death stalked into the room but his touch was gentle so it is to every man who is not afraid it can hardly bo be said that any particular ailment was waa the cause of mr Cal CI tharps taking off just old age nothing else also about 4 sunday morning he was seized with a coughing spell mrs coltharp Coll harp went up and administered some medicine and remained at his bedside for a short time at breakfast she decided to let him sleep awhile longer when sho she called him at 9 ho he was dead down in sunny tennessee madison ville monroe county andrew J coltharp was born bom july 2 1831 at gliwa aiwas s see college one of the famous old southern institutions of learning he was educated for nearly sixty years he was waa an honored and respected citizen of the volunteer state in 1856 five years before the civil war convulsed the south he was wag united in marriage to harriet matilda lowry five children blessed that union john ella william wiiiiam P r james horace and george john and james horace florace are still living and are well known throughout this cation of the country sixteen years ago mr I 1 Colt coltharp barp canie came to colorado with his family and since that time he has made avat amt state and utah his home ile he has always been a quiet unassuming dignified gentleman ile he was a member of the th baptist church the funeral was held at the residence of mrs W P coltharp tuesday afternoon at 2 and was conducted by rev ludwig thomsen don B colton made a brief talk in which lie he extolled the virtues of the dead man the music was furnished by mrs bassett miss newcomb mr adams and tom birchell with mrs L thomson thomsen as accompanist comp anist the rendition of tho the mar byred president McKin leya leys favorite hymn I 1 lead kindly light was waa beautiful and touching the remains were laid to rest at the vernal cemetery charles carter L 11 woodard ike burton alf johnson N J meagher and C B cook acted as pallbearers pall bearers mr coltharp lived to a good old ago age according to the extreme biblical limitations to a mans life he was on seven years of borrowed time fcc that reavon the relatives should not mourn they should find solace and comfort in the words of that grand hymn so beautifully sung by mrs baskett Basset Basa ett chich thich begins something like this oh dry those tears and calm those fears life is not made for sorrow twill come alas but soon twill pass clouds will be sunshine tomorrow |
