Kennedy Junior High School tonight (March 19) at a meeting scheduled for 7:15 in the auditorium. Guest speaker will be Kenneth W. Hedenstrom, formerly with the Governors Committee on Drugs. He will be assisted by a panel composed of studentbody officers from Kearns High School. They are: Greg Critchfield, President; Kathy Dangerfield, secretary; and Kathy Anderson, historian. The students will discuss availability of drugs, the percentage of students who use them, and possible solutions for this serious problem. Parents, teachers and students affiliated with John F. Kennedy Junior High School are invited to attend the meeting by G. R. Gomez, President. Project chairmen are Mrs. Louis W. Jensen and Mrs. Norman B. Nielsen. Bowlers To Dance Over $500 in prizes will be given away at the Annual Bowlers Dance, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at the Terrace Ballroom beginning at 9 p.m. according to Bonnie Triptow, publicity chairman. The dance is sponsored by the Salt Lake City Mens and Womens Bowling Association. Cost per person is $1.00. Tickets can be purchased from firectors or bought at the door. All association bowlers and partners are cordially invited to attend by Ohleen Leatherwood, womens president. Little League To Sponor Concert The Cyprus Little League Football Committee, under the direction of President Kay Miller, is beginning its ticket sales campaign to raise money for football uniforms. It will present the Salt Lake Chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. on Friday, April 17, at 8 p.m. at West Lake Junior High School featuring the Salt Flats, Beehive Statesmen and others. J. Carl Hancuff is master of ceremonies. Donation is $1.00 per person or $3.50 per family. All proceeds are for the benefit of the Cyprus Little League. Kearns Team on Young Americans Kearns High team composed of four senior boys will compete for the Young Americans quarter finals on Saturday, March 21, at 12:30 p.m. on Channel 5, KSL. They are: Robert Lemmons, Tom Hardy, Brian Namba and W'endell Tolman . The boys have won three consecutive matches and are scheduled to compete against Jordan High school. The Young Americans is a quiz program on general high school knowledge sponsored by the Deseret News and KSL TV. Master of Ceremonies is Kay Richins. A Kearns Names Sterling Scholars Kearns High School announces tha Sterling Scholars have been chosen as follows: Social Sciences - Tom Hardy; English - Debbie Nelson; Science-Alm- a Anderson; Foreign Language - Bill Jensen; General Academics-V- al Pedroza; Speech and Dramatics - Brian Namba; Business - Laurie Wessman; Homemaking - Angie Trujillo; Industrial Arts - Kevin Thur-goo- d; Mathematics - Mike Pierce; Music - Jill Paxgon; and Art - Sandra Stringfellow. Semi finalists will be selected from Utahs schools on March 26, and the Ninth Annual Sterling Scholar Awards Program, sponsored by will be televised at Kearns the Deseret News, KSL Radio and KSL-THigh School on April 14. ..Al No2 School Exhibit PAGEANT And Dinner Stansbury Elementary School Is active with preparations for their annual Art Exhibit and dinner to be held Wednesday March 25 at 6 p.m. Swiss steak will be served, $1.00 for adults and 60? for children. The tickets will be sold the morning of the 20th and Monday the 2 3rd of March. We hope everyone In the area will enter their art. The adult art will be displayed in the room this year and the childrens art will be in the halls. The rules for the Art Exhibit are as follows: (1) There will be five mediums, with a Junior and Senior Multi-purpo- se Division where warranted. a. Drawings b. Water Colors c. Oils d. Sculpture (& wood carving) e. Photography f. Handiwork Each participant will (2) be allowed to hang five entries in the exhibit, with not more than three in any one medlu. Each participant will (3) be responsible to get his entries to and from school. Time for delivery Is during school hours Monday March 23 and until noon Tuesday March 24 at the school. Neither the school nor the PTA will be responsible for any itme beyond due and reasonable care. (4) Each picture must bd properly mounted for display and those to be hung must be framed and equipped with screw eyes and be ready for hanging. (5) Each entry is to have on the back: Name, address and phone number of owner; and if for sale, all pertinent information. (6) Each participant must have registered with us by Monday March 23rd. The children work very hard for this exhibit, why not come and enjoy your childrens ef- is the theme PEARLS OF BEAUTY of the 1970 Miss Kearns Pageant scheduled for at the Kearns High auditorium, announces Don Herzog, President of the sponsoring Kearns Chamber of Commerce. The stage will be done in a motif featuring pearls. First entry is pretty Sharon Lynn Cary, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cary, Sharon is a senior at 4915 South 4380 West. Kearns High School wth a 3.8 grade average. She is 5 foot 6 12 inches tall and has brown hair and brown eyes. Born in Pasadena, California, Sharon has lived in Utah most of her life. She will play a piano selection for her talent presentation, sharon plans to attend Brigham Young University next fall to major in elementary education. She is employed as a teachers aide at Western Hills Elementary School. Active in church work, Sharon has received five individual awards. The pageant, which is a preliminary Miss Utah and Miss America Contest, will feature the beauty and talent of young ladies in Kearns or who attend Kearns High School. Contestants must be 18 by September 7th in order to qualify for Miss Utah and Miss America. Prizes are a $100 wardrobe and entry fees to the Miss Utah Pageant, trophies and scholarships. DeMolay Week V, Kearns Debate Team Takes First Taking a first place at the recent Weber State Invitational Debate Tournament were the team of Robert Lemmons and Tom Hardy of Kearns High School. Robert and Tom defeated eight teams from Utah, Idaho and Neyada to take the award. The tournament is said to be the largest of Its kind in the world. Catholic Women To Elect Officers The Catholic Womens Club will hold a meeting this evening, March 19, at 8 p.m. at the St. Francis Hall in Kearns to elect officers. Charity articles for the Popes Storeroom will be displayed. The articles are sent throughout the country and the world to help needy people. The 11 DeMolay chapters the Jurisdiction of Utah will join more than 2, 500 other DeMolay chapters in local observances of International DeMolay Week March 15 - 22. The purpose of the event Is to acquaint the public throughout the free world with te alms and activities of the In character-buildin- g organi- zation for young men aged 14 to 21. The DeMolay Jurisdiction of Utah has chapters in Logan, Brigham City, Ogden , Clearfield, Bountiful, Salt Lake City (2) Magna, Midvale, Provo and Price. LECTURE AT SALT PALACE A Christian Science lecture titled What Are We Looking For?" will be given by Martin Broones, C.S.B. in Salt Lake City on Tuesday March 31 at 8 p.m. The lecture will be held at the Salt Palace (Little Theatre). Originally from New York City, Mr. Broones attended Columbia Univerlty and later studied musical composition under John Ireland of the Royal College of Music In London. He has written many well known sacred songs and musical scores for popular light operas. After organizing and directing the first music department in the motlonplct-ur- e for industry In Studios Hollywood, he became a producer of motion pictures and radio programs. Mr. Broones, a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, currently lives In Beverly Hills, California. Metro-Goldwyn-Ma- withdrew from business some time ago to devote his full time to the public practice of Christian Science healing, and he has been a teacher of the religion since 1958. He |
