President, Langham Proud, Feted by Kearns Residents Leaving for a tour of the Grand Canyon area Sunday morning was Mr. Langham Proud, president of oCmmunity Development in Hamilton, Australia, who has been touring the western United States and has spent the past three days in A welcoming committee headed by Mrs. Virginia Johnson and composed of other residents, Ralph Carter, Ruth Mathews, and Gale Bruce, helped make Mr. Prouds visit very enjoyable. Wednesday night, June 22, he tt to the was taken sight-seein- g properties, Great Salt Lake, Brighton, and many other scenic spots in the valley by Orin Hunter, who is a member of the Kearns Town Council, and his wife. Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Gale Bruce took Mr. Proud to an open-ai- r youth concert in Kearns, followed by dinner at the Fort Douglas Country Club. This was particularly enjoyed by Mr. Proud, who is the president of the Cuntry Club in Hamilton. Earlier in the day Mr. Proud was interviewed for KCPX TV by Dr. J. D. Williams of the University. A gala luncheon, with 40 Kearns residents present, was the highlight of Saturdays activities. After the invocation by Rev. Carl Samuelson, the luncheon and speeches proceeded,, with Gale Bruce as master of ceremonies. Speakers for the. afternoon, we re Commissioner Edwin Q. Cannon and Dean Harold Bently of the University of Utah who urged the continuance of Community Development and stated that the University is still behind the program. Following these speakers, Mr. Proud delivered a very stimulating talk which precipitated a lively lively question and answer period concerning Australia and his Community Development activities in that country. Accenting this discussion period, slides were shown of Australian scenery , including mountains, reand sorts, Mr. Prouds home-towother and enjoymany interesting able scenes. The luncheon was a tremendous success, climaxing Mr. Prouds visit which was sincerely enjoyed by all Kearns residents, fortunate enough to have met him. Ken-neco- Mr. Savage Savage Photo Moves to Larger Quarters Dee Savage, long time resident of Kearns, has opened photo studios on the second floor of the old Kearns Shopping Center building at 4050 West 5415 South. The studios occupy a four-roosuite just as you get to the . top floor of the stairs. Complete facilities for the camera room, processing and reception room are found here. Mr. Savage, who had the first and only such business in Kearns, proudly pointed out that he was not only in business in Kearns, but is a resident of Kearns. Until now he has been operating out of his home: But the press of business has necessitated this move to larger quarters. Intera,, Miss Bonnie Mackay Weds David Beagley The Reception Center was the scene of a wedding reception last Tuesday June 21. Earlier Tuesday morning newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. David Beagley were united in marriage in a Salt Lake Temple ceremony. Miss Winnifred Marie Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Benson, Cheyenne, North Dakota, became the bride of Mr. Conley L. Fenning, Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Kearns. Rev. Carl Samuelson performed the ceremony. For her wedding gown, the bride chose a floor-lengt- h dress of lace and net tiered over satin with matching finger-tippe- d jacket .of lace and a viel of white illusion. She carried a white bible, topped with a white orchid. The matron of honor, Mrs. L. S. Riding, sister of the bride, and the bridesmaid, Mrs. D. F. Jacobsen, sister of the groom, both wore matching flowered blue sheaths with overskirts of blue net and carried bouquets of yellow roses. Flower girls, Cheryl Lee and Shauna Jacobsen, wore pale blue nylon over taffeta frocks and carried baskets of yellow rose petals. Master Cory Car- - At the State Convention for the Green Thumbers Saturday, June 25, the Kearns Green Thumbers received two of the three National Awards presented. One was a purple ribbon for flower show achievement, which is the highest national honor a garden club can win for a flower show. The other award was a citation for work done with the Junior Garden Clubs in Kearns. The Marcelle Augsburger Award, which is an individual award, was won by Mrs. Thurlyn Christensen, for the woman who has done the most outstanding garden club work. Mrs. Christensen is the read of the Kearns Junior Garden Clubs. New State officers were elected and were honored to be installed by Mrs. Jamie L. Well-Know- n Taylorsville at 54 Rancher Dies Alvin Barker, 54, 4365 So 2200 West, well known rancher and active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, died of diabetes at his home last Wedh nesday, June 22 after a illness. He was born Feb. 13, 1906, Taylorsville, a son of David and Ellen Todd Parker. He married June Anderson Nov. 18, 1925, in the Salt Lake Temple, and served on a Western States Mission 1926-2Mr. Barker was Sunday School superintendent of the Taylorsville Ward, served on the Stake High Council, oCttonwood Stake, and Presidency of the Cottonwood and North Jordan Stakes. At the time of his death he served as president of Taylorsville Stake High Priest Quorum. He also served as director of the North Jordan Canal Co. He had been a civic leader and had helped bring utilities to West Salt Lake County. Survivors include three sons and two daughters, Richard A. and Duane A., Taylorsville; Shyrl A., Soda Springs, Idaho; Mrs. Marvin (Renee) Melville, Salt Lake City, and Penny, Taylorsville; 10 grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters, Fred W. Earl, Abram, Adam, Clyde, all of Taylorsville; Mrs. William (Nellie) Bawden, Granger; Mrs. A1 (Laura) Cowan? Salt Lake City; Mrs. Charles (Josie) Stump, Richmond, Calif.
