Her wish was to be able to make life happier and easier for her two sons who were confined to wheel chairs with muscular distrophy. When asked what she would like to have if she were selected Queen, she stated that she would like to have a retainer wall put around her back yard and a slab terrace poured to enable her two sons to have a little more freedom out of doors. These wishes and many more will be given to the Smith family, as she was selected Queen For A Day. A Jr. Chamber Commerce board meeting was held at the home of Darr Harward, Tuesday evening. Special guest was Ted Whitney, of the state department of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. At such time, activities and projects were formulated for the year 1959-6A state quarterly conference will be held August 15th and 16th by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce at the Newhouse Hotel at which time the Kearns JCs will submit their proposed yearly program for the approval of the state organization. The local JCs organization is divided into two categories. External projects will be headed by Gene Andrews as chairman, who is 2nd vice president of the organization. Chairman of the Internal activities is Gerald Lindhardt, 1st vice president of the group. The busine&s estab lishment is owned by William B Martin. Mr. Martin is also owner of Martin Drug Center in Magna and the Hunter Drug Center in Hunter. Mr. Martin has recently enlargec the Kearns establishment from 900 square foot area to about 2900 square foot area. They are also authorized dealers of LDS Church books. If you have nothing else planned it is well worth your while to take a trip into Salt Lake City to see some of the marvelous work the youngsters completed during the summer months. The exhibit is on the second floor. The Salt Lake County Summer Recreation Program for 1959 will close at noon, August 14th. About 4,000 Kearns youngsters participated and spent an enjoyable 1 summer earing something worthwhile and having fun doing it. A very hearty thank you should be extended to the men and women who spent the summer with the children, teaching and entertaining them. They did a great job. Poulsen family of Kearns have been residents of the community for the past seven years. Mr. Poulsen has been emtt ployed during that time by the at Garfield the Copper Corp Refinery. His most recent position with the company was as wheelman in the Casting department. Mr. Poulsen has accepted a promotion and transfer by the company to their new electrolytic refinery at Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Poulsen and his family are leaving Sunday, August 9th, for Arnold, Maryland, where they will make munity outside of Baltimore, in the Anne Arundel County. The area has been a farming district until the refinery was built. The area that is now covered by the new plant was formerly all forest that had to be cut down in order for the refinery to be built. Mr. Poulsen and his family anticipate putting in a lot of time boating, as they are only two miles from the Chesapeake Bay. They feel that making the move at the present time will have advantages for the children as they will not have to be disrupted from their their home. school activities.
