To provide interesting and safe recreation for our children, the Salt Lake County Recreation Department is again sponsoring a summer program for that purpose. Parents are urged to take advantage of this offer. Arts and crafts, dance, quiet games, story telling, drama, baseball and sports activities are included in the program and your child may attend one of the following schools to participate. Program Baseball for boys, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. till noon. Monroe Elementary School daily 9 a.m.-- 4 p.m. Boys baseball at Granger Park. Instructor is Ruth Heber. Whittier Elementary School 9 a.m.-4p.Dance Tuesday and Thursday. Instructors: Lewis Mon-so- n and Betty Fay Davis. Plymouth Elementary School 9 a.m.-- 4 p.m. daily; Dance Monday and Friday morning. Insrtuctors: Keith Judd and Barbara Josie. Dance is being taught in these schools by Connie Cooper. 9 Magna Elementary School a.m.-- 4 Instructors: p.m. daily. County Supervisor Magna VFW Cited At State Meet The Magna post of the VFW received a citation at the state convention for having over 100 membership in their post. The VFW auxilary of the Magna post received a trophy and a $25 reward for their increase in membership. Members of the Magna post who attended the convention were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Paris, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Romano, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Louderback, Mr. Don Thomas, and Mr. Orlando Henderson. American Legion Hosts District Leadership Training classes got June 15th at the underway Oquirrh Hills School. The classes are designed to train Kearns residence in human relations and leadership in preparation for an all-oeffort to introduce Community Development to the community. Heads of organizations, both civic and religious, are asked to attend the classes. However, individuals with a concern for the development of their community are also being sought to round out a program being instituted throughout the United States in bringing better unity to the diverse groups by banding together to reach goals they have in common. The Community Development Program, endorsed by the Kearns Town Council and many of the civic and religious organizations of Kearns, will seek to uncover the desires of the people and to attack the problem through the coordinated efort of all groups. ut Mrs. Urban Gebo and Mrs. Gene Andrews serve the public sno-con- es machine that was in operation from the Jaycees sno-con- e for the first time Saturday at the Kearns Shopping Center. The machine will be in operation every Saturday for the JCs sno-corefreshment of the public. The JCs also plan to operate the machine during the parades on holidays. The 11 week course included instruction in all basic military subjects and infantry weapons. Upon completion of training new Marines are assigned to a unit for further infantry training, or to one of the many Marine Corps schools. there. Registra tion fee will be $5 per person for the sixteen hours. The $5 fee will help to defray the costs undertaken by the University of Utah for hiring qualified trainers for the course. Dr. Weldon Moffitt, Associate Professor of Psychology of the Brigham Young University in Provo, will be ,in Kearns to conduct the classes. The Kearns American Legion Post hosted the 14 posts of district No. 8 at the Community Hall Tuesday evening. Summing up of events for the department convention that will be held Friday, June 19, 20 and 21, was the main topic under discussion for the 'evening. Convention will be held at the Post Home in Logan, and at the Eccles Hotel. A large parade is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. The American Legion parade will be in con- junction with the Dairy Princess parade. It is hoped that it will be one of the biggest parades in the history of Logan. Guest speakers will be Major General Maxwell Rich and National Commander Preston J. Moore. Baptist Girls LnAl rlWIlwl vUUIIaclUI The members of the Girls Auxiliary of the First Baptist Church, Kearns, honored their counselor, Mrs. Willard Kearney, with a reception Sunday night, following the Coronation service. The Coronation is in recognition of the accomplishments of the girls in the activities of the organization. The decorations followed the G.A. color scheme of green, gold and white. Dresses for the girls are furnished by the Ladies Civic Club, a Jantzen bathing suit is given to the Queen by the JCLs, a traveling trophy and an individual trophy is also given to the Queen by the JCs and perfume and manicuring sets will be given to the girls by the American WBBA. Officers Go To County Fair 4-- H Last Monday, officers of the Club under the direction of Mrs. Gerber, attended the County Fair at Murray. Officers classes were held to instruct the girls in the proper method of handling their prospective offices. 4-- H At the last meeting of the Club, the girls made individual sewing baskets for the members of 4-- the club.
