Last week two unusual occurrences came together to give me a daytime nightmare. The day started off calmly enough with breakfast with friends. Strangely enough one of the topics of conversation was flat tires. You guessed it; after breakfast and running a few errands, the car began to feel funny, and for no good reason, I had a flat. To make matters worse I looked dow-the road and to my horror saw a house was slowly inching its way toward me. The flat took place in front e of a gas station. When the attendant saw me in need of help he just turned his back and wouldnt even look my way. So much for you, I thought. See if I buy gas from you. Across the e street was another station. This station ooerator told me he didnt do that kina tiling ant more. Not being, liberated type, my only resort was to call for help help. Our regular trusty service station operator was called. Oh, what a relief! He told me that he would have one of his employees come as soon as possible. Back to the car I went for a long wait, or so it seemed. Actually it was all of fifteen minutes. But you know how jittery you get when something is crowding the road and coming your way. That house had no consideration for my plight at all; it just kept on coming. Closer! And closer! No help had arrived and it was at the intersection trying to get underneath the semaphore light! 1 had to admit that was some pretty fancy driving to bet that big house under the light and then it came straight at me. How that driver managed to miss hitting me, I don't know (my eyes were shut) but he did. Then it happened, my rescue unit came to my aid In about ten minutes a nice young man with a North Carolina accent had the tire changed and I was on my way thinking perhaps it is time I learn to change a tire' Rebekah Bernice is the third child born to Rodney and Kathv Christensen.
