Show Thursday, February 23, 1961 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Page 9 Savings & Loan Group Predict Good Times In Year Ahead Despite the present economic slowdown, Utahs federally insured savings and loan leaders expect business in the state will be as good or better in 1961 as last year. That optimistic note is shown in a survey just completed by the Utah Savings and Loan League. Louis S. DiEnes, chairman of the leagues committee on public information, announced Wednesday. Participating in the survey was G. Blair Bradshaw, president of American Savings and Loan Association with a branch at 3555 Market, in Granger. Fifty per cent of the savings and loan leaders participating in the survey, said they expect 1961s business in Utah to be better than in 1960. The remaining 50 per cent replied that this years business will be about the same as 1960. Ninety-tw- o Mr. and Mrs. Willard J. Jones Feted On Their Golden Annivesary Mr. and Mrs. Willard J. Jones, LDS Church, and has served for 5635 W. 3500 South, celebrated the last 20 years as secretary of their golden wedding anniversary this Wednesday. They had many friends and relatives present. Their seven sons and daughters were responsible for the lovely open house held at the Hunter Chapel. Mr. Jones was bom in Hunter, October 19, 1883. He received his education at Hunter and then in 1904 graduated from the University of Utah. Being only 20, lje became a teacher in Hunter, and Granger schools and remained for fourteen years. He then worked in the insurance business for thirty years and established the Jones Insurance Agency which is now operated by his two sons, Paul and Elmer. He is an active member of the the North Jordan Stake High Priests. Mrs. Alice Warr Jones was born in Granger, October 14, 1885. She was educated in Granger and has received employment at the Paris millinery store. Mrs. Jones, like her husband, is a member of the LDS Church. She has devoted 12 years as counselor in the presidency of the Relief Society. A date which neither has forgotten is February 22, 1911, when they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, by Anthon Lund. They are parents of the following children: Paul W., Thomas D., Elmer B. Jones of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ernest (Vernetta) Sondereg-ge-r, Monticello, Utah; Mrs. Glen D. (Marie) Brown of Hunter and Mrs. E. Curtis (Charlotte) Anderson of Provo, Utah. The other half expect their staff numbers to remain the same as in 1960. Savings leaders predict the new housing starts in Utah will be about even with those in 1960. Mr. DiEnes said that 25 per cent of the respondents see an increase of from 5 to 10 per cent in 1961. Fifty per cent think housing starts will be about the same, and 25 per cent think they will be from 5 to 10 per cent less in number than in 1960. Most savings executives think their associations will have more money to lend for home financing this year than in- 1960, and they think there will be more home loan - money available from all sources this year than in 1960.
