Twelve hundred members of the six wards comprising Kearns Stake attended the Sunday morning meeting and over 1,000 came to the Sunday afternoon gathering which were held the first time in the newly built $410,000.00 Kearns Stake Center. Stake President Merrill A. Nelson conducted the meetings under the direction of Elder Bruce R. of the First Council of the Seventy who represented the General Church Authorities. Both of these men were featured speakers of the conference. Other speakers at the Sunday morning meeting were: Miss Idonna Richards who recently returned from fulfilling an honorable mission for the Church in South Australia. Mc-Conk- ie Shauna VVozab Selected as WBBA National Queen At the third annual coronation dance of the Kearns National WBBA, over 500 attended to see the new royalty crowned for 1960. The queen and her attendants are selected by the number of votes they bring in at a penny per vote. All proceeds are used to purchase equipment needed by the ball teams for their seasons games. The girls registered in the contest this year, brought in a total of $536.08. Selected as new queen was 8 Shauna Wozab, with a total of Meare votes. Her attendants linda Fullmer with 5,416 votes and Shirley Warner with a total of votes. Trophies were presented to the Phillies for winning the most uncontested games of the season, and for winning the first half of the season. The Dodgers were also presented with trophies for winning the second half of the season. A plaque was also presented to Mr. Bryant C. Some 1,100 members attended and the youth of the stake sat in a specially designated reserved section of the chapel. The following young people participated and gave talks: Miss Ilene Richards, a Gleaner Girl; Mr. John Hendrix, an Eagle Scout; Mr. Clair Woodward, a teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood; and Mr. Gerald Meyers, a Priest of the Kearns 6th Ward. Also giving talks were Burton Brasher and Sheldon Holmes of the stake presidency. Two meetings were held on Saturday evening. Feb. 13. At 6:30 p.m. a special leadership meeting of the officers and teachers of the stake convened, followed at 8:30 p.m. by a Fathers and Mothers meeting. Some 500 parents listened at this meeting to J. Edgar Hobver of the FBI and J. Reuben Clark, Jr., of the LDS First Presidency, give illustrated lectures on the youth of the nation and the Church. We hope to hold future recreational activities for the youths of the area, should this dance become a success, stated Bea Trujillo. The first problem, was the decision as to what schools should be invited to participate in the dance program. As most of the high school youths attend either Granger or Cyprus High, they naturally were the first to be contacted and confirmation obtained from. It is realized that there are high school students living in Kearns that may attend schools other than those previously mentioned, therefore the dance committee wishes to extend a sincere invitation to those students also. Hoping to develop a good neighbor policy, the committee agreed that one additional school should be invited as a guest school. Through contacting the principal and student body officers of the Bingham High School, the committee obtained confirmation from them that they would be glad to ac- cept the invitation. Next the date had to be selected so as not to conflict with other . The guest speaker for the evening will be Mr. Charles Pat Woolery, also of Colorado. Mr. Woolery, a former military intelligence agent, having worked as a counterspy for the American government, worked undercover of both the Nazi and Communist regimes. Presently, a businessman, Mr. Woolery is lecturing in public high schools, civic groups, and churches of many denominations. This class will be conducted on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. for nine weeks. The cost of the course will be $5.00 plus the cost of books and material. The overall charge will not be over $8.00. This course will cover the beginning essentials of bookkeeping and is especially intended for persons who are interested in doing their own, bookkeeping in a business, as an employee of a business, or in keeping their own home records. scheduled programs.
