Redwood Rd. Phone: CY discussing the reputedly sad plight that our teenagers are in. Someone mentioned that the newspapers are constantly full of stories about the trouble our kids are in. I .wonder seriously tho if this generation is any worse (or better) than the preceeding generations. Is it possible that they ai merely getting more publicity than we did when we were kids? The point also came up that we never read about the kids , who never get into trouble. We never read about, the millions and millions of teen agers who live a normal live and who are actually an asset to the community. We seldom read or hear about the kids that get good grades in school, help around the house, enjoy life in general and who never get in trouble with the law. This is easily understandable because stories dike this dont sell newspapers. People dont really want to read dull stories about kids who grow up living the kind of life that is expected of them. Kids want to have their parents and teachers proud of them. They want to live a clean and moral life and stay out of trouble. They want to fall in love and marry a person of high standards and raise their own family. Where they fail or where we fail them is a matter of conjecture. So if youre tired of reading about teen agers that have gotten into trouble with the law, let me tell you a little story of the type of young man you dont read about very often. A few days ago I picked up a fellow who was hitch-hikinIn the course of the conversation he told me that his name was Elvis Jones and that he . g. n b A large trophy will be awarded Kearns at the end of the school year to Kearns the school which has flown the Bennion Kearns flag the most times. The trophy was won last year by Highland. ANYTHING GOES b, ad by ROLF W. KAY A while ago, a group of us were sitting around t5; I t w. KaX and works at the Salt Lake County Hospital on 21st South and State. It seems that he is a male nurse there and works from seven in the morning till about three in the afternoon. This in itself is not too strange but the thing that impressed me was the fact that he had to get up about four thirty every morning to start hitch hiking to town so he can be at the hospital to report for work at seven. Being newly married and recently out of the Army has placed Elvis in such a position that he cant afford a car. There are no buses running that time of the day and he hasnt been fortunate enough to find someone who goes in the vicinity of the hospital that time of the morning. But Elvis has no intention of being a male nurse all his life. As soon as he gets a little more education and some money ahead he plans to go to Medical College for his degree. As far as Im concerned this is quite an undertaking for a young man of nineteen. But I think with his determination hes going to manage it. So there are teen agers around who you seldom hear about that are going to make their mark in the world. Elvis isnt trying to prove anything. Im sure he didnt want any publicity about what hes doing. Hes doing it because he wants to make something better of himself and to help his fellow man. And hes going to do it himself. If any of you drive in the vicinity of the Salt Lake General Hospital at about seven in the morning why not call Elvis at CY and offer him a ride. Im sure hell appreciate it and maybe itll make you feel good too. r i I 70 i . i VALLEY VIEW NEWS CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING I f Place your wants ads by calling CY or mail them with your remittance to 4290 West 5540 South, Kearns. 53 Classified Advertsing: 15c per line, with a minimum of 45c per insertion 2x8 ft. studs, 29c each.
