She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University at Provo in 1972. The new director was graduated from Sherman Indian High School in 1947 and she also attended San Marcos Junior College in California. During the past year, she worked with the Upward Bound Program at Weber State College in Ogden. The recent appointee is married to Gilbert L. Mojado and they are the parents of five children. A recent graduate of the University of Utah was selected this month to administer the Adult Basic Education Program for the Ute Indian Tribe. Elementary, College Degree Two Recreation Specialists College Degree Required, Project Director Gwendolyn Mojado announced the staff positions have been filled with the exceptions of one teachers aide and the secretarial positions. John Heavy Runner, Ute, was selected to instruct the reading component of the project. A biographical sketch for Mrs. Heavy Runner is featured in another article in this months Ute Bulletin. The math classes will be taught by James Hanks, a native of Salem, Utah. He was graduated from Utah State University with a degree in math, computer science, and applied statistics. His teaching experience is a year at Firth High School in Firth, Ida. Mr. Hanks and his family live in Roosevelt. Adult Education Director Named GS-4- 5; 89-1- 0, hr.; 1. A Brigham Young University graduate was hired as a teacher's aide. Mrs. Sylene Accuttoroop earned her bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from BYU where she was selected as an t outstanding business student by the National Business Education Association. She has taught in Clearfield, Utah. She and her husband, Myron, live in Fort Duchesne. A teacher's aide position was filled by Judy Reed, Ute, of Indian Bench. She was graduated from Union High School. Her employment experiences include work with some Education Development Laboratory equipment and office work. Her goal is to earn a degree in social g dispute between the Klamath Falls, Ore., Indian community and law enforcement officers over alleged discriminatory treatment of Indians arrested in the area in comparison with treatment of arrested whites. The agreement, mediated by the Justice Departments Community Relations Service, calls for prompt investigation and reporting of results of all written complaints against law officers to a Citizens Community Relations Committee. Also, two Indian alcohol control officers, one Indian matron at the city jail, and recruitment of minorities as police officers were stipulated in the accord. CRS had entered the Indian-Whit- e dispute after confrontations between Indians and law enforcement officers occurred in the summer of 1973 at Klamath Falls. School Districts Awarded' Indian Education Funds Grants totaling $40 million have been awarded to 1,050 local school districts and organizations by HEW's Office of Education under three parts of the Indian Education Act for its second year of operation. The new funds represent an increase of $20.5 million for American Indian children $2.5 for American Indian adults over last years allocation. The National Advisory Council on Indian Education (NACIE) consisting of American Indians and Alaska' Natives made recommendations for the grant awards and will assit grantees in their programs.
