The incumbent shall plan, develop and implement the program to provide educational opportunities for the students and community as indicated by the following: 1. Prepare Budget and determine Girls Softball The junior girls, junior misses and the high school girls began play in the Roosevelt Girls Softball Leagues last week and will be playing their games for the next few weeks. We hope they will be able to play some of their games during The National Basketball Tournament at Albuquerque last month produced the first national Indian champion team. The winners were Haskell Indians from Lawrence, Kan. This fine team featured several outstanding players of the Haskell Junior College team along with Wayne Postoak and Phil Homeratha coaches at the school. The Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Ken Pemberton of the Indians led the team in rebounding and scoring as they defeated the Lost Angeles Vikings in the finals. The Vikings were led by Dennis Firethunder and Bill Noon but were hampered without the presence of Sonny Tiger who broke his collar bone against Lame Deer on Firday night. The Northern Cheyenne team who defeated the Ute Chiefs on the first night, finished third as Rapid City, did not play on the last evening. Rapid City left the court with 27 seconds to play in overtime against Haskell and were forced to forfeit in the The dispute was triggered by a call on a violation. The tournament had not provided a visual clock to time the shooting periods. This incident was the only unfortunate incident in the tournament which did not draw the crowds which were anticipated in the huge university arena which seats the 4th of July celebration at Fort Duchesne, so their friends and families can watch them play. Boys Baseball We have combined the two Mustang teams to make one team as we had problems fielding two teams and they will complete their schedule the first week in July. The Broncos will be wrapping up their schedule at the same time. We expect several of our players will be selected to the all star teams and go on to play in the tournaments later in the summer. Roller Skating . With the opening of the Red Barn Roller Rink we are planning to schedule several parties at the Roller Rink for the young and old people from each community. Area Office Status For Southeast Tribes Indian Commissioner Morris ThompBIA reorganison's zation includes Area Office status for federally recognized tribes served by the BIA east of the Mississippi River. Harry Rainbolt (Pima) is expected to be retained as Area Director in the new administrative elevation. Also under Rainbolt's jurisdiction are the Field Employment Assistance Office in Chicago, 111., and a contract operation in Pascagoula, Miss. . Bowling Every one who wishes to learn to bowl are asked to sign up at the recreation office so arrangements can be made to take groups to Vernal for bowling Golf With the opening of the Roosevelt Golf Course we are planning to schedule lessons for groups who wish to learn to play. We ask you to sign up at the Recreation Office as soon as possible so the schedule can be made. Stunner Activities The Recreation staff has been increased with the addition of several high school and college students working for NYC and we will be having Recreation Activities for the 0 year olds at each community. We will be having games, picnics, hikes and other activities for the younger groups. Posters will be put up at each location with the times and places for meeting with the young people. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree or equivalent in Education, Education Administration or other related fields. Applicant should possess one or two years training and experience in Adult Education.
