'' ' 1973 S SIIIPSTADS JOHNSON Spectrum 73' is the title and theme of the 1973 Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies, which comes to the Salt Palace for five days only beginning Wednesday, May 2. The 37th edition of die skating spectacular has an look with old favorites and new stars. The cast features Richard Dwyer; Mr. Frick, 35 years an Ice Follies star; Karen Kresge; Susan Berens; Christy Ito; Kathy Miller; Ricky Inglesi; and Atoy Wilson, the first black skating star. Special guest star is Trixi Schuba, 1972 World and Olympic champion. The famous Cook family, all five of them, make their Follies debut with this years show. The quintet of skaters includes father Cal, mother Dori, the ten year old twin boys Kris and Kelly, and twelve year old Kim. Comedy is ably handled not only by Mr. Frick, but by the talented Kevin Bubp, who, in addition to doing solo comedy, is a member of the Scarecrows. In addition to these stars, there are the Funsters, a trio of zany skaters. The six elaborate production numbers include the opening sequence The Sounds of the 7Cfs; Lake Ho Ha, featuring the skating gorillas; Thing A Mees, produced especially for the youngsters; Sounds and Motion starring Karen Kresge; and the extravagant finale, Everybody Loves Saturday Nigfrt starring the entire cast and featuring the Ice Folliettes. Sarasota, Florida, she is staying at the Rodeway Inn. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she was the owner of an advertising agency, which handled the Ice Follies account. At that time it was Coming owned by Madison Square Gardens. Mrs. Loomis is the mother of two sons, Calvin and Peter. One is in the newspaper business and the other is an insurance agent. Taking this position in 1968, she has had 5 yeats of traveling with the show. She loves this kind of work, which includes buying radio & TV time, all newspaper advertising, interviewing for the company and promotion and sales. Joan says she loves Salt Lake and its beautiful scenery and wishes she had more time to spend in our Valley.
