THERE ARE ALWAYS MORE FACTS TO BE FACED As a newspaper, what we do is face the facts. We look at a situation, we report what we see, and we make ii look slick, all the while. What do we see when we look at you? We see lines of brilliantly composed text; we see eye-catching layouts; we see deftly averted typos -all metaphorically, of course. But what matters, in the end, is not what we see. What do you see (again, metaphorically)? UVU • review I am a Newspaper. Flickr.com DIGITAL TV TRANSITION SET FOR JUNE 12 • The U.S. House of Representatives has pushed back the original digital television transition deadline of Feb. 17 to Jun. 12 to give consumers more time to prepare. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller D-West Virginia, passed the U.S. Senate in January. The decision was made in order to accommodate 2.5 million consumers who were still on a waiting list to receive the $40 discount coupon for a digital converter box. The delay came as a result of an advertisement made by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce announcing it had run out of the $ 1.34 billion to be used for the coupons and was waiting for more funding. In early 2008, Utah was listed as the least prepared for the digital transition since the state has the highest percentage of analogonly TV households in the nation. CALIFORNIA LOOKING TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA • Last week, Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco introduced a bill to legalize marijuana for recreational use. The proposal is to regulate marijuana like alcohol. People over 21 years old would be allowed to grow, buy, sell and possess cannabis. |
