Show Moinday * September 8, 2008 Attack at the institute Police and paramedics were dispatched to the Orem LDS Institute on Friday, Sept. 5 in response to a reported heart attack. Full-time institute faculty member K. Douglas Bassett of Mona, Utah is reported to have collapsed in the institute library sometime around 1:30 p.m. Bassett was transported by ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. Bassett was said to have voiced complaints of not feeling well throughout Friday morning. Other institute students and faculty indicated that Bassett is known to have a heart condition and has suffered at least one previous heart attack. No update on Bassett's condition was available at the time of this report. Faculty and staff from the master's of education program introduced themselves to all the students during an orientation before their class started. Packets were also handed out detailing what should be expected during the two-year program. Many of the students enrolled in the program are teachers at surrounding school districts. Erica Decker, a teacher at Eagle Mountain, and Tarni Johnson, a teacher at Mapleton, explained that they wouldn't allow their workinduced exhaustion to interfere with the excitement they felt upon commencing their first day in the master's program.
