Show Monday • July 28, 2008 ^ fromE3* B1 Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll | Every first Friday of the month, art lovers swarm Historic Downtown Provo for the Gallery Stroll. The event goes from 6 to 9 p.m. and is free to the public. This month, the. stroll will include eleven venues, the newest being The Provo Community Church, United Church of Christ, which is ''located just next to the Sego g/Vrt Cente^. k ' Like tlje majority of the f and what you'll regret buying in 3 months because you didn't listen. Microsoft, which many will argue "won" E3 this year, brought the heat from day one with the megaton announcement that FINAL Fantasy Xill would also be coming to the Xbox 360, after being touted for years as a PS3 exclusive. This announcement, combined with the introduction of a sequel to the cult hit Portal, the announcement of Netflix/ Xbox 360 interoperability, and a bevy of game-play videos from anticipated, exclusive titles like Gears Of I War 2, Halo^arst Fable August brings a new venue and plenty of new art Mel Sundquist Life editor . exhibits, the Church will show work by local artists. The Gallery stroll is the most popular and deserving of any art-related event in Utah County, and can compete with the best exhibits in Salt Lake. The venues are all within six blocks of University Avenue and Center, which makes it entirely feasible to visit every exhibit. As always, there will be free food, which makes it worth your whije evert if* you' re not tr&t jitfEj art. 2 And Fallout 3 set a very high bar for the next day's proceedings. Starting off hot, Nintendo announced Wii Motion Plus, a small device that can be attached to the bottom of the Wii remote in order to render full 1:1 motion. Nintendo's efforts, including a demonstration of their new online voice chat, dubbed Wii Speak, and showings of games like Animal Crossing WII, WII Music, WII Sports Resort and Grand Theft Auto Ds almost made for an interesting press conference. Unfortunately, these announcements were drowned out by a deafening silence from the Mario, Metroid and Zelda teams and by Nintendo executives' self-congratulatory attitude and overuse of marketing buzz words. Following Nintendo, Sony put on a show that is best described as solid. While there were no bombshells, so to speak, there was plenty of footage from system exclusives like Resistance 2, Killzone 2 And Little Big Planet. Multiplatform releases such as Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy XIII And Bioshock, along with the PSN movie download store announcement rounded out Sony's show. Aside from press confer- ences by the big three hardware makers, software makers also showed off their wares. Standouts include the PC God-simulation Spore, The Conduit and Mad World for the Wii, Banjo Kazooie 3 for the Xbox 360, Infamous for the PS3, the mulliplatform Force Unleashed, Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia for the DS, and Resistance: Retribution for the PSP. With these and other fantastic looking games on the horizon, 2008 looks like a great year to be a gamer. Unless, of course, you only own a Wii. give a schedule of these events, insisting that they are random, but says that if he sees "someone making a purchase ... I'll go up to them and say, 'Yo* are , you making a purchase with->J your UVU PlusCard?' and they're like, kNo, I'm just doing cash,' PII be like/Alright! "Cash on! Lose your money.' But then if they're going to use their Plus Card I'll ... just swoosh right in there for them." Another reason PlusMan is so excited about the UV Plus Card is that it.works with a credit union instead of a bank. His father, a retired banker, suggested that he work with a credit union because "they're not trying to get those fees from you and stuff." Starting August 4, PlusMan is planning on starting ablogatIAmPlusMan.com. He iplans on posting about His day-to-day rituals and many adventures. "For example, two days ago I ran out of yogurt ... Luckily I had my new UVU Plus Card, shot down, got myself some yogurt. Crisis avoided." A prevalent trait among superheroes is that they fight something. This is usually something like crime OF injustice. PlusMan states that he's fighting "unawareness." In talking to him, it's easy to get the feeling that seeing a student with a bulging wallet full of cards and multiple bank accounts really breaks his heart. As for PIusMan's ultimate message for UVU students? "Get away — get out from under all those cards and all the craziness that comes with ... two banks. accounts and ... sixty credit cards. You don't need iti Free yourself up. That's my ultimate message. Free yourself up, man!" PlusMan is still fighting to become more than just an unofficial spokesman, but authorities still see him as a "wild card." For now, he asks students to "Go forth and plus." from PLUSMAN- B1 from PANNA COTTA • B1 Divide the mixture evenly among the prepared ramekins. He mentioned that balancing the life of his secret identity and the life of PlusMan can be difficult, but "luckily my aefcret identify is very bofijng/V :j,So far heijias-met mixed reactions ftojfi' students. l T definitely fteel "that people aftf intimidated by me. Like one time I was addressing half of the marching band - I could definitely see the fear in their eyes." In the future, you can expect people to react in a much more appreciative way toward PlusMan. He's planning on using his student loans to pay for cardcarrying students' lunches or even textbooks. Also served are delicate and crisp salads, Panini sandwiches during lunch hours, and desserts all day best described as (though ciiche'd) divine.
