Many of which go unnoticed in comparison to the mass of wealth and technology that is the United States of America. But, that does not make them of any less importance. One such country is found in West Africa. Togo is not only home to 5,556,812, but also to UVSC student Ephraim Amou-berry Hanna - Where are you from? Ephraim - I'm from Togo, West Africa. Togo is in between Ghana and B*enin. Hanna - Tell me a little bit about the situation there right now. Ephraim - The political constitution in Togo right now is a big deal. About a week ago, the president of the country died. What the constitution says is that when the president is not apt to run the country, the president of the Senate takes over. Then they have 60 days to organize an election so the country can have a new president. "Here they taught me how to fish, but I can't fish myself and feed a whole nation." -Ephraim Amou-Berry UVSC Student Hanna Hooge/NetXNews Ephraim Amou-Berry is an Integrated Studies major from Togo, West Africa. take over is exiled and they changed the constitution to put somebody in power. Then the population is mad about it. Why are they mad? Because these other people think that Togo becomes their own property, but it's a country not a business you run for yourself. We have a constitution, it is a state. Togolese are not happy about it, other countries are not happy about it. Some even want to have a sanction against Togo. Hanna - How do you feel about the situation? Ephraim - I do not appreciate it. We are a democracy and we want people to follow it. The army can't change that, it is unconstitutional. I don't think he will do a good job as president either. For 38 years his father didn't do a good job and he is already breaking the rules. problem happening in Togo is because of lack of communication. The previous government did not open the door to communication. What I want to do with it is run a media station at home, radio as well as TV, because we do not have those things there. We only have a state one run by the government and they say what the government wants them to say. I want to have a station that can talk about social issues and how we can improve our nation, have people come and say what they feel or think about our nation. I want to find a way to make the media available to everyone. Hanna - What would you like students or faculty at UVSC to do about it? Ephraim - What I want is more activity from the school.
