Show Your Life PAGE 11 MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2005 Daggers is one sharp movie John Christensen They both also sport kickass, kung-fu action sequences, proving yet again that, even with The Matrix, Americans still haven't gotten it right. Of course, the action sequences are like those seen in Crouching Tiger and Hero, which a lot of people have a hard time swallowing (yes, there are more scenes where people jump from tree to tree). These action sequences are more like a dance than a fight, and if Americans love anything, they love a good fight, and don't want to see one transformed into something different than brutal. Life Writer With House of Flying Daggers, the director of Hero (Yimou Zhang) brings us yet 'another complicated film to mull over for a while. Where Hero was about one man trying to put an end to war, House is about three people caught in the middle of one. What both films succeed in doing is bringing out the more human aspects in any war, proving that, in the end, what matters is not who wins or loses, but the people who fought and died.
