Each dance is symbolic, rooted in traditions particular to the participating Native American tribes. Powwow is an event in which Native Americans meet and join in dancing, singing, visiting and renewing old friendships while making new ones. Pow- wows help renew thoughts of old ways and to help preserve a rich heritage. As a Native American, I grew up learning traditions taught by my grandfather. I was influenced to live according to the inspirational things he taught me. Everyone in my family would abide by what he said, since he was our spiritual leader. He helped our family through difficult times.
