The clock can no longer accommodate the amount of money that America is borrowing. The digital dollar sign has been replaced with the numeral one necessary for the roughly $10.2 trillion debt amount. An improvised dollar sign has been placed next to the one temporalily. A new clock is in the works and its installation is scheduled for 2009. The new clock will have the ability to track up to a quadrillion dollars. The current clock was built in 1989 to keep the nation aware of the then $2.7 trillion debt.
