Show MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2008 • THE COLLEGE TIMES Life Whos your mommy? Definitely may be the best rom-com Luke Hickman B3 S A N I blameMe tailor, or lack thereof Life editor Most guys get turned off by titles falling into the romantic comedy genre, so instead of referring to Definitely, Maybe as doing such, we'll use the genre's British title - "rom-com." Otherwise, no guy would willingly see this movie and like it. If we title it something else, they'll see it and love it. In Definitely, Maybe, Ryan Reynolds {Just Friends, Smokin' Aces) plays Will, the soon-tobe single father of Maya, played by Little Miss Sunshine's Abigail Breslin. After a mind-blowing sex-ed training in school, Maya becomes inquisitive about how her divorcing parents met. Instead of just giving her a straightforward answer, Will decides to tell Maya about three different love interests that intertwined between 1992 and 1997, one of them being her mom. To not give it away from the get go. Will changes the names of the three women. The movie is made up of the back-stories that ensue. Since these are filled with some of the most influential moments in Will's Brandon Schelin Life writer bespoke jbi sp k| past ofbespeak. adjective [ attrib. ] chiefly Brit, (of goods, esp. clothing) made to order ; a bespoke suit. Universal Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin play daddy and daughter in Definitely, Maybe. life, you connect with Will as he becomes a vulnerable character through his sharing his most intimate emotions with his daughter. You'll see him fall in love three times, and get his heart broken three times. Reynolds' average Joe character causes you to easily connect and identify with his Will. The three true loves of his life are played by Rachel Weisz (The Mummy), Elizabeth Banks (Scrubs), and Isla Fisher (Hot Rod, Wedding Crashers), and with all three of their characters, you see exactly what it was that made him fall in love with each of them. Though each one of them break his heart, Definitely, Maybe never gets mean, contentious or negative; it never shows a single one of the women in a negative light. Definitely, Maybe is an easily likable movie. The only criticism anyone can have on it is that it is too positive. It isn't your cliche'd chick-flick. It works on many lev- els. You won't be able to guess what lies in the next chapter of Will's life. And if it teaches anything, it's an effective way to show children how to cope with and get through their parents' divorce. Definitley, Maybe is not your typical rom-com. It's actually not a typical movie at all. It's super positive and upbeat. There's something in it for everyone except pessimists. If you like movies like About A Boy, then you definitely need to see Definitely, Maybe. HOW TO from Bl N E W can be just as .(or'more) interesting than television. 6. But the audience was eerily silent as the film cut to grainy footage from the helmet camera of a skydiver wrestling with her parachute before suddenly hitting a tree and then the ground with an audible thump. The skydiver was Karina ttollekim, and in that instant feelings for Hollekim quickly became a liability. The audience must come to grips with what they witnessed, as Hollekim must come to grips with her injuries. Hollekim somersaults multiple times before she spreads her limbs and glides like a flying squirrel out and away from the cliff. Her Base jumps are shown from various angles, including from a camera attached to the helmet of a second jumper that follows her into the fjord. In a perfectly sartorial-world, we would all be able to employ a bespoke tailor, and among others a cobbler the likes of which would play principle roles in the crafting of our personal styles. I won't even begin to delve into the creation of a perfectly humane world, for as simple of reasons as my being a style writer and my having a 400-word article ceiling. However, living in the world we do - the world of mass produced, mass replicated garments - how does one go about finding well-fitting, well-crafted clothing? Answer: the alteration tailor. As with the bespoke tailor, an alteration tailor is employed to make a custom garment for the individual; however, as seen with the street artist Banksy, they do not begin with a blank canvas. An alteration tailor will take your garment, as well as your measurements and requests, and will then customize for you an entirely unique article of clothing. Not to say it will look nothing like the piece you* brought in - were that the case, I can't say I would advocate the use of tailors. Unless, of course, the garment you' received back was something more befitting you-;: than its predecessor} which is actually what you are receiving back • anyways. But I digress. Fit is arguably the most essential aspect of a style, and while 1 personally advocate a matchstick approach to fit, by no means can any be considered correct. It's simply a matter of taste, as well as intention. imathathome.com 11:30 P.S.
