Write your own War And Peace Luna Ha\o-(Self Titled) 2 stars Produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, the second album release by Luna Halo has been a long time coming. Their last full-length album was released in 2000. Overall, the album is solid and unexceptionally ok. The ability of the. band to create interesting pop melodies is apparent, such as the tracks "On My Way" and "The Kings and Queens". Yet the album is lackluster, using typical pop-structures that the radio is saturated with, and has mediocre, overly polished vocals, sounding like that of a finalist on American Idol. This will likely be lost among the many similar sounding albums within the realm of pop-rock music, and isn't much different from the likes of Fall Out Boy or Yellowcard. To their credit, a few of the songs on this album are catchy and worth a listen. Still, most of the songs do not make a mark, and the album fails to set itself apart as something special. - Finish writing that novel. You know, that one you started that's supposed to be epic? The first of what promises to be an annual Christmas tradition will commence Saturday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. outside the BYU Wilkinson Center. "Christmas by Candlelight" is an Australian and New Zealand Christmas tradition where people gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by light- ing candles, listening to live music, singing carols and enjoying hot chocolate and treats. "This is a great way to bjing the community together for a common cause," said Emma Tomberlin, a cochair in organizing the event. The idea is to bridge the gap between UVSC and BYU students and involve every member of the community in celebrating the Christmas season. "Residents of the Utah Valley are so diverse and this is really going to bring all the wonderful, unique aspects of the community together and unified in sharing the Christmas spirit," Tomberlin said. Popular local musicians Mindy Gledhill, Weston Wride from Moosebutter, Noteworthy and many others will be performing at "Christmas by Candlelight." The event is free of charge and each member will receive a candle to light and Christmas treats. Parking will be available across the street at the BYU Law Building. f « more information, wittactt Jason Llnford, (480) 313-1454, ja5on.linford@9mail.com Blake Hampson, (801) 368-7193, blake_hampson@mac.CQm Emma Tomberlin, (608) 354-3618, sokkertick@hotmaiUom |
