Show i Sports B13 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2007 • THE COLLEGE TIMES came against Longwood. Now, with the tournament, the team had a chance to win something more than a few games but also had games to change the team philosophy a bit. "I can get too uptight and it rubs off on the team," Utah Valley coach Brent Anderson said. "We wanted to keep more relaxed today and keep loose." Whatever they say, it helped to be playing NJIT as well. Utah Valley pounded this same team 5-0 in October for its first home win of the season. It was all smiles on the sideline for both Utah Valley players and coaches in the first half as Adrienne Schneider gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead 22 minutes into the game, dough scored her first goal shortly after on an assist for Schneider. Dough's second goal in the second half also came on an assist from Schneider. "We asked or midfielders to be more creative and penetrate, and Adrienne did a great job at that," Anderson said. Utah Valley goalie Mallory Schott, in goal most of the game, and Hailey Brown combined for the ' team's third shutout of the season. SOCCER from Bll The win gave Utah Valley a shot at the conference championship in a rematch against Longwood on Sunday. Forward Jenni Clough netted two goals in the win and is happy to have a tournament to play in. "We're fortunate Howard University put this whole thing together," Clough said. "We can go out on a good note to end the season even though we've struggled this year." Playing other USC teams was a different story in both the season and the tournament. Utah Valley went 4-1 in USC play and its only loss Utah Valley 3 NJITO In Short Key play Final Utah Valley dominated NJIT for the second time this season with Adrienne Schneider contributing on all three goals. With a 1-0 lead Schneider found Jenni Clough at the top of the box with a defender on her. Clough controlled the ball and fired at the net for the score. Utah Valley played Longwood in a rematch of a 2-1 game the Wolverines lost earlier in the season on Sunday. Mark Johnston / College Times Utah Valley forward Jenni Clough embraces Adrienne Schneider (22) after Clough scored her second goal agoinst NJIT on Q Schneider's assist. CSU Bakersfield Cal State enters the tournament on a three-game losing streak, dropping all three to California schools. With only six wins on the season, the Roadrunners aren't packing much of a punch for the Independent tournament. Utah Valley won both contests in Bakersfield 3-0, 3-2. Chicago State For the Cougars this volleyball season had a pretty dismal start as the team lost 19-of-20 games to open the season. Chicago State's first win against Lehigh came nine games into the season. Utah Val- ley swept the Cougars in October. The Wolverines might not face the Cougars in the tournament if they win both games and advance to the championship game Saturday. NJIT To start the season, the Highlanders looked a lot like Chicago State. NJIT lost nine in a row to start 2007 but turned things around a little better, not by much though, only win- ning eight this season. Utah Valley beat the Highlanders 3-1, and unless Utah Valley slips up or NJIT goes on a run, Utah Valley won't face the Highlanders. Providence PROVIDENCE Providence has as many wins this season as Utah Valley, with 18, but it is 1-1 against other Independents. The Friars dropped a fivegame match to NJIT at the end of October. Utah Valley hasn't faced Providence this season but will get the chance to beat another Independent in both teams' first game. The Friars are 3-2 their last five games heading into the tournament. Trent Sates / College Times Jojsica Endres takes to the air in Utah Valley's upset over in-state rival Utah State.
