One such class that might be of interest to many UVSC students is the Digital Audio Essentials class. This class is the first steppingstone for those who are. interested in either majoring in digital audio or simply wanting to learn how to put their crazy music ideas to good use. In the class, students learn the fundamentals of recording, using programs such as Pro-Tools and Sony Vegas. These programs can be quite costly, so having access to them at school is cost effective for many people..1. Students start by learning the very basics of how sound acts before actually delving into the recording process, providing a foundational understanding. One considerably cool assignment that is done in this class is students take an old recording and polish it up, making it sound better. The applications of learning how to do this can be vast, if one is considering a career in the music recording industry. Branson Garner, a UVSC student taking the class said, "I really enjoy the Digital Audio class because it gives me a chance to not only record my rockin', brilliant tunes, but it also gives me a foundation and understanding of how to break into the recording business." Digital Audio Essentials is taught by Paul Dunkley and Michael Wisland in the Computer Science building and is listed as DGM2130. The second class is also one that will be of great interest to many UVSC students: It's called Human Sexuality and is an essential course for those who major in Psychology, Behavioral Science and related fields. The material taught in the class, however, is fascinating and pertinent information for anyone. HumanSexuality focuses on the many ways in which See COURSES. A4 . THE COLLEGE TIMES A3 Deaf studies, students make up prominent campus community Collin Hayward Guest writer Some contend that the Hall of Flags is the loudest place on campus. Others may contend that there is no quiet outside of the library. There does, however, exist a quiet world here at UVSC: the deaf world. Within this, an assortment of students, the deaf and the un-deaf. Beginning in the early '90s, UVSC began to offer entry-level ASL classes in the evening. The growth of classes has been rapid in just a few years. As it stands now, UVSC offers 75 sections a year in entry level and advanced courses. The UVSC website reads, See QUIET. The theme chosen for this year's conference is 'Making Your Mark- Leading in the 21st Century'. In reference to the theme, Dr. Bruce Jackson, director for the Center for the Advancement of Leadership writes in the conference program, "As you prepare yourself to become an expert in your field it is important to remember that becoming a technical expert is only half the challenge, the other challenge is learning the knowledge, skills, and abilities that will help influence yourself and others as you seek to have an impact within your career." Special guest speaker Utah's First Lady Mary Kaye Huntsman will accompany keynote speakers Hyrum W. Smith and Chad Lewis. Smith is a renowned author and also founded -• Gifts and groceries from Japan, China, Britain, Korea, Brazil S. Africa, India, Argentina, Polynesia, Australia, Mexico, Germany, Holland, Italy, Eastern Europe, Peru, Thailand, Indonesia and Russia . Franklin Quest, which later merged with Covey Leadership Center to become Franklin Covey. Lewis is a professional football player and most recently played for the Philadelphia Eagles. "Last year's Conference was an unqualified success, and this year promises to be even better," said Jackson in a press release, "The Conference will be the highlight of the year for anyone who chooses to attend." The leadership conference is open to college and high school students, business and community leaders and to anyone else interested in gaining insight in leadership, or in perfecting their skills.
