In Stranger Than Fction, Ferrell plays Harold Crick, a mathematical genius-of-anIRS-agent who one day begins hearing a narration of his actions and inner monologues throughout moments of his static, monotonous life. Little does he know that his actions are mirroring those of a fictional character (of the same name) in a novel being written by novelist Kay Eiffel (Emma Thompson). Harold's life is thrown into a tailspin of worry and paranoia once the narration foreshadows his coming death. The comedic element of the film is>; done- well enough that it can be considered aj mainstream picture, while director Marc Foiyi ster (Finding Neverland, Stay) added plenty ; of his own original artistic designs to make it jj almost have and indie feel at moments. Thefj final product is a good mixture of both styles.* Though it is not common knowledge, Fer-v rell has worked on a handful of serious, dark;; indie comedies and dramas that have proven, his talent (see Melinda and Melinda or Win-i\ ter Passing). It is not strange that Ferrell does i such a good job with his role as ftarold Crick' ) All of the acting in Stranger Than Fiction is quite well done. Thompson's performance is strong and heavy. Supporting actors Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Tony Hale (Buster from TV's Ar-:j rested Development) help fill the screen"! with original and balanced performances..; Stranger Than Fiction is a movie definitely worth seeing. It is one of the most well balanced movies out right now. WhileJ there are great moments of comedic con-n tent, there are also plenty of human moments that create a perfect moral to the story.
