The Pre-Med Club on campus is to prepare students who want to be doctors and students going into the general medical field. Primarily the club helps students get into medical school so they can continue in the needed educational requirements. Currently there are about 50 members involved but new members are always welcome. "It's hard to get your foot in the door these days," said Elis Unice, the clubs Vice President for medical applications. To get into medical school, certain skills need to be acquired and a number of goals need *o be met. Core classes are needed as well as service hours, letters of recommendation, research experience, and more. Pre-Med Club advises students on how to accomplish these tasks. The club offers many different leadership positions to assist students in need of leadershipexperience. Each area needed for acceptance into medical school, is lead by one student. That way if someone needs help or questions answered, one specialist from the club will be able to guide them. "When you have a lot of people working towards one common goal, you can really accomplish something," Unice said. Pre-Med Club has a variety of different members, from mothers to military students, all with different goals in mind. Currently you will find doctoral students involved in the club from surgery, ob-gyn, anesthesia, and many more. The latest activity included stitching up pig's feet, as well as various service projects. Upcoming events will include a tour of the University of Utah's new medical building next Friday, Dec. 9.
